It’s been a few months since George Miller shared his plans for the Mad Max spin-off centered on Furiosa. This project finally got a green light at Warner Bros, and its cast will include Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

Taylor-Joy will be in charge of replacing Charlize Theron in the role of strong-willed and powerful Imperator Furiosa from Mad Max: Fury Road. Her casting was first announced back in March, and Theron admitted that the replacement was “a tough one to swallow”, but she’s confident that George Miller will do the justice to the character.

“It’s a little heartbreaking, for sure. I really love that character, and I’m so grateful that I had a small part in creating her. She will forever be someone I think of and reflect on fondly. Obviously, I would love to see that story continue,” Theron told The Hollywood Reporter.

Miller admitted that he previously considered using de-aging CG on Theron instead of re-casting her, but felt that the technology isn’t advanced enough. The spin-off will tell Furiosa’s origin story before she joined forces with Max Rockatansky in Fury Road, but it still doesn’t have an official release date.
