]]>The show’s creator Austin Winsberg said he’s extremely grateful to the Roku Channel for helping them “get Zoey to sing again” and revealed what the upcoming movie has in store.
“I can’t think of a more appropriate time to hear someone’s heart song than the holidays. And Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas will be an opportunity to provide the fans and new viewers alike a chance to all tap their toes and get in the holiday mood,” stated Winsberg.
Colin Davis, Roku’s head of original scripted programming, echoed his statement and said that the healing power of this series is what makes the idea of a holiday-themed film with the original cast so special. According to TV Line, Roku could potentially order additional episodes of the series if the Christmas film performs well, but we’re yet to see what the future holds.
Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist follows Jane Levy in the role of a programmer who discovers she has the ability to hear people’s inner thoughts in the form of elaborate musical numbers. In addition to Levy, the series also starred Skylar Astin, Alex Newell, John Clarence Stewart, Peter Gallagher, and Mary Steenburgen.

]]>Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist centers on software developer Zoey Clarke (Jane Levy), who suddenly discovers she has the ability to hear people’s thoughts as songs. The show premiered back in 2020 and met with positive reviews while also drawing solid ratings. This helped it score a second season, but a decline in viewership prompted the network to pull the plug on it.
After the news was announced, the fans started campaigning on social media to save the show. This prompted the producers to explore ways to continue the story of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist somewhere else.
The series was offered to several networks in various formats and was at one point close to being picked up by streaming service Peacock. After the deal didn’t materialize, Roku Channel decided to step in and offered the producers a chance to make a movie.
Reportedly, if Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist movie turns out to be a success and performs well among the Roku Channel audience, more episodes of the show might follow.
