The cast also includes Keeley Hawes, Ann Dowd, Sam Riley, Tom Goodman-Hill, Mark Lewis Jones, John Hollingworth, and Bill Paterson.
Rebecca has been adapted many times for the stage and screen with Alfred Hitchcock’s 1940 Oscar-winning film starring Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine being the most notable. The film had 11 Academy Awards nominations, which was the most that year.

]]>Nothing is official just yet, but Hammer seems like a good replacement for Affleck in upcoming superhero flick directed by Matt Reeves. This film is scheduled for 2021 release date and it will focus on a younger and less-experienced version of Batman.
Before reports of Hammer’s involvement started making the rounds online, a couple of other young Hollywood stars were linked with this project. Ansel Elgort, Dylan O’Brien, Logan Lerman, Noah Centineo, Jack O’Connell, Richard Madden, Kit Harington, Nicholas Hoult and Aaron Taylor-Johnson were reportedly also in the talks.
Despite a couple of smudges on his resume, Armie Hammer managed to reinvent himself in the last couple of years with roles in critically acclaimed projects The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Call Me by Your Name and Sorry to Bother You. We’ll next see him in thriller Hotel Mumbai, also starring Dev Patel and Jason Isaacs.

The couple moves to husband’s imposing family estate on a bleak English coast, where it becomes obvious she’s not the only woman in his life. The legacy of his dead wife Rebecca is still haunting the house, and posing threat to their marriage.
The most memorable adaptation of Rebecca came out in 1940 and won the Oscar for Best Picture that year. Alfred Hitchcock served as director, while Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine played the lead roles, and both received an Oscar nomination for their performance. ]]>Director Mimi Leder was head over heels after learning American Film Institute representatives picked her film. AFI alumni explained their decision is particularly meaningful because she was one of the first women ever admitted to the AFI Conservatory.
“My time at the Conservatory was a life-changing experience and informed my creative journey. I am forever grateful. I hope girls and young women, in particular, will see the film and find inspiration to realize their own unlimited potential,” said Leder.
President & CEO of American Film Institute Bob Gazzale explained they wanted to honor On the Basis of Sex because it brings two dual mandates together as one. It’s both a story essential to our times and a triumph for one of the first female directors at the AFI Conservatory.
On the Basis of Sex centers on the young Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who teams up with her husband Marty to bring a groundbreaking case before the US Supreme Court. It stars Felicity Jones and Armie Hammer, and it will hit the theaters just in time for Christmas.
