During a recent appearance on Apple music’s The Rebecca Judd Show, Sheeran shared some details about his friendship with Eminem. This included a story about their first studio session in rapper’s Detroit studio. 

According to Sheeran, he had a live show in Detroit and received an invite from the iconic rapper to drop by. But surprisingly, the session didn’t produce any songs as they ended up just hanging out and talking movies for hours.

“I just stepped in there. Actually, the first time we met, we didn’t make music,” Sheeran told host Rebecca Judd. “I hung out there for about four hours, and we just spoke Marvel and Avengers for about four hours.”

The second session, however, was more productive, and the pair recorded the previously mentioned “River,” which was part of Eminem’s ninth studio album Revival.

Ed Sheeran and Eminem could soon be teaming up once again as Sheeran recently confirmed that he is working on his fifth studio album.

Sheeran went on social media on Thursday to mark his 30th birthday. He posted a photo of himself from a younger age and thanked everyone for their “wonderful messages.”

“I’ll be back online with the 4th installment in the series later this year, until then xx,” he added in the caption.

The “series” Sheeran probably refers to in his post are his previous three solo albums: 2011’s debut + (plus), 2014’s follow-up × (multiply), and most recent ÷ (divide), which came out in 2017. Continuing with the theme of mathematical symbol, the next record should be called – (minus). If not, we are going to be really disappointed.

While there have been four years since his most recent solo effort, it is hard to say that Ed Sheeran wasn’t busy. He released the EP No.6 Collaborations Project in 2019, which featured Sheeran joined by a number of his friends and fellow musicians. The star-studded guest list included Justin Skrillex, Bruno Mars, Stormzy, Cardi B, and many others.

Despite mixed reviews, the EP made it to No. 1 on charts in more than 20 countries, including the United States and the UK.

“Got myself a fiancé just before new year,” Sheeran wrote. “We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx.”

He also posted a cute picture of him kissing Cherry.

Sheeran and Seaborn started dating in June 2015, shortly after the 26-year-old singer broke up with Athina Andrelos. Interesting thing is that the couple knew each other since childhood and were high school friends.

“I’ve known Cherry since I was 11,” said Sheeran to People magazine. “She worked on Wall Street in New York, and I had like six shows [around New York in 2015]. It was around then, and we reconnected. I went on tour again, and then I went to Taylor’s [Swift] 4th of July party. I was texting [Seaborn], and she was like, ‘I’m in Rhode Island at a 4th of July party,’ and I was like, ‘So am I.’ I kinda said to Taylor, ‘Can I invite one of my old schoolmates?’ The rest is history.”

Ed Sheeran has a great year behind him, with his “÷” album becoming the fastest selling in UK’s history behind Adele’s 25 and Oasis’ Be Here Now. He was also Spotify’s most streamed artist of 2017. Sheeran’s most recent work was a collaboration with rapper Eminem on the song ‘River’ which was a part of Eminem’s album Revival.
