Ed Sheeran and Eminem have been frequent collaborators in recent years, teaming up for a number of songs, including 2017’s single “River” and 2020’s “Those Kinda Nights.” But it turns out that music wasn’t in the focus when the duo linked up in the studio for the first time.

During a recent appearance on Apple music’s The Rebecca Judd Show, Sheeran shared some details about his friendship with Eminem. This included a story about their first studio session in rapper’s Detroit studio.

According to Sheeran, he had a live show in Detroit and received an invite from the iconic rapper to drop by. But surprisingly, the session didn’t produce any songs as they ended up just hanging out and talking movies for hours.

“I just stepped in there. Actually, the first time we met, we didn’t make music,” Sheeran told host Rebecca Judd. “I hung out there for about four hours, and we just spoke Marvel and Avengers for about four hours.”

The second session, however, was more productive, and the pair recorded the previously mentioned “River,” which was part of Eminem’s ninth studio album Revival.

Ed Sheeran and Eminem could soon be teaming up once again as Sheeran recently confirmed that he is working on his fifth studio album.
