]]>Loreen was a clear front-runner from the very start with her power ballad “Tattoo”, but this year’s Eurovision voting was still a wild rollercoaster. She established herself as a clear favorite with the jury, receiving 340 points in the first stage of the voting—almost twice more than Italy and Israel in the second and third spots.
Käärijä from Finland received the most votes from the public, winning 376 points with his viral hit “Cha Cha Cha”, but that wasn’t enough to come out victorious. Loreen eventually won with a total of 583 points after jury and public votes were combined. Israel’s Noa Kirel came in third with her song “Unicorn”, followed by Italy and Norway.
This isn’t Loreen’s first Eurovision triumph—she was previously crowned as a winner in 2012 with her smash hit “Euphoria”. She’s the first female artist and the second overall to win Eurovision twice, following in the footsteps of Johnny Logan, who led Ireland to two Eurovision wins during the ’80s.

]]>Britain is officially set to host next year’s Eurovision Song Contest following discussions between the EBU and the BBC in light of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
As is tradition, the country which wins Eurovision will host the following year’s competition. This year’s event took place in Turin, Italy after Italian rock band, Måneskin, claimed victory in 2021 with their song “Zitti e buoni”.
The Kalush Orchestra of Ukraine topped the leaderboard after receiving 439 points—the highest televoting points received in the contest’s history to date. The track, “Stefania”, was sung entirely in Ukrainian and is the first hip-hop song to win Eurovision.
As soon as Ukraine was announced as the winner, speculation began as to where the 2023 competition would be held. The EBU has now confirmed that the next Eurovision Song Contest will not be in the war-torn country as a result of the current situation.
Oleh Psiuk, who is the lead singer of Kalush Orchestra, expressed his sadness at his home country being unable to host, but said, “We, in turn, will make all efforts to help Ukraine win next year as well, so that Eurovision 2024 can take place in a peaceful country.”
The UK, which came second in this year’s competition, will now take over hosting duties. London, Sheffield, and Manchester have already confirmed that they will put in an official bid to be the host city.

This is only the third time that Italy was crowned as the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, following their wins in 1964 and 1990. Måneskin also happens to be the first band to win the contest since 2006, when Lordi scored the victory for Finland with “Hard Rock Hallelujah”.
France, Switzerland, Iceland, and Ukraine rounded out the top five at the 65th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. The final night of the contest took place on May 22nd in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, marking the fifth time that this country hosted Europe’s biggest music event.

]]>The contest was due to take place in Rotterdam after The Netherlands won the 2019 contest. More than 200 million people tune in each year to watch the singing contest, which includes countries from all over Europe (as well as Australia).
“It is with deep regret that we have to announce the cancellation of the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam,” the official statement said. “Over the past few weeks, we have explored many alternative options to allow the Eurovision Song Contest to go ahead. However, the uncertainty created by the spread of Covid-19 throughout Europe – and the restrictions put in place by the governments of the participating broadcasters and the Dutch authorities – means the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has taken the difficult decision that it is impossible to continue with the live event as planned.”
The announcement also stated that talks about hosting the event next year in Rotterdam are underway.
