The masterminds behind the Eurovision Song Contest have been toying with the idea of bringing this competition to the US for quite some time. After a lot of rumors and speculations, it’s finally been confirmed that the American Song Contest will take place in 2021.

The American Song Contest is supposed to air on American TV screens during the 2021 holiday season. It will feature musical acts from all 50 states, and it’s open to all artists willing to participate—from those already signed to a major record label to total amateurs.

One of the Eurovision rights owners, Anders Lenhoff, has high expectations for the American Song Contest and believes it will stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the most spectacular televised events in the U.S.

“The American version will be different than anything seen before on U.S. television, marrying the fanfare and excitement of March Madness and the NFL playoffs with the artistry and beauty of world-class performances,” Lenhoff said in a statement.
