]]>Based on one of William Shakespeare’s most popular plays, The Tragedy of Macbeth centers on a Scottish lord who receives a prophecy that he’ll soon become the next King of Scotland. His ambitious wife supports him in his attempts to seize power, but his guilt comes to haunt him down the line.
Macbeth has been adapted on countless occasions in the past, but Joel Coen probably felt quite strongly that he has something new to bring to the table. The Tragedy of Macbeth will be the first movie that he directed solo, without his brother and filmmaking partner Ethan Coen.
In addition to Washington and McDormand in the leads, this movie will also star Corey Hawkins, Moses Ingram, Brendan Gleeson, and Harry Melling. The atmospheric first trailer doesn’t reveal much of the plot, but we’ll learn more about it after its world premiere at the New York Film Festival. The Tragedy of Macbeth will have a limited release in theaters on December 25th, before heading to Apple TV+ on January 14th.

]]>Based on the novel by Miriam Toews, Women Talking is set to be written and directed by Sarah Polley. According to its official synopsis, the movie centers on “a group of women in an isolated Mennonite religious colony in Bolivia as they struggle to reconcile their faith with a string of assaults committed by the colony’s men.”
In addition to Mara, Foy, and Buckley, Women Talking is also set to star Judith Ivey, Sheila McCarthy, Michelle McLeod, and Ben Whishaw. August Winter, Liv McNeil, and Kate Hallett are set to make their feature film debuts in this project.
In addition to playing the lead role, McDormand will also produce the project via her Hear/Say Productions banner. Nomadland was also co-produced by this company, and she won the Oscar for best film as one of the producers, in addition to collecting the best lead actress award.

]]>In addition to beating the likes of Mank, Minari, and The Trial of the Chicago 7 to win the biggest award of the night, Nomadland came out victorious in two more categories. Frances McDormand became one of seven people in history to win her third acting Oscar while Chloé Zhao became the second female filmmaker to walk away with the best director trophy.
Another historic moment came when Anthony Hopkins managed to beat the late Chadwick Boseman in the best actor category and become the oldest person to win this award. The supporting acting categories were much easier to predict and the awards went to the expected winners—Daniel Kaluuya (Judas and the Black Messiah) and Youn Yuh-jung (Minari).
The list of major winners at the ceremony included Emerald Fennell (best original screenplay for Promising Young Woman), Thomas Vinterberg (best international film for Another Round), and Christopher Hampton and Florian Zeller (best adapted screenplay for The Father). Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Sound of Metal, and Mank were amongst the movies with two awards, mostly in technical categories.
The 93rd Academy Awards were held on April 25th at Union Station and Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

]]>This critically acclaimed drama stars the two-time Oscar winner Frances McDormand and follows the adventures of a woman in her sixties who decides to embark on a journey through the American West after losing everything she has.
Nomadland received universal critical acclaim after its premiere in Venice, and it’s set to show at several more film festivals this fall, including the upcoming New York Film Festival. Its theatrical release date in North America is set for December 4th.
Regina King’s One Night in Miami and Tracey Deer’s Beans were also in the running for People’s Choice Award in Toronto. This year’s festival took place between September 10–21, and most films were available to critics on an online streaming platform.

]]>And even though the teenager didn’t receive any awards herself, she certainly won the respect of an acclaimed actress.
Dwayne sat down on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to reveal that Best Actress winner, Frances McDormand had done exceptionally right by the Johnson family.
“I’ll never forget this. Frances McDormand, she wins a Golden Globe. She goes up there and — I love Frances, as we all do — she goes up and right before she speaks, she turns around and walks to the back of the stage and shakes Simone’s hand out of the blue. It just blew me away. No one did that, and she just had the awareness to do that to my 16-year-old daughter. She gave her speech, and as she’s walking off, she grabs Simone’s hand. She has the Globe in this hand and Simone’s hand in this hand and she kisses Simone’s hand. And I was so blown away by that gesture.”
So much so, that Dwayne has decided that he and the Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri actress — who is hitched to director Joel Coen — are getting married.
“I’ve got a little crush on Frances. Frances, we’re gonna have to exchange numbers because just between you and I – I know nobody else is watching – we’re getting married. It’s not gonna be weird. Lauren [his girlfriend] down with it.”
