The film festival season is in full swing, and one movie is winning every award in sight. After picking up the Golden Lion in Venice, Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, where it won the People’s Choice Award.

This critically acclaimed drama stars the two-time Oscar winner Frances McDormand and follows the adventures of a woman in her sixties who decides to embark on a journey through the American West after losing everything she has.

Nomadland received universal critical acclaim after its premiere in Venice, and it’s set to show at several more film festivals this fall, including the upcoming New York Film Festival. Its theatrical release date in North America is set for December 4th.

Regina King’s One Night in Miami and Tracey Deer’s Beans were also in the running for People’s Choice Award in Toronto. This year’s festival took place between September 10–21, and most films were available to critics on an online streaming platform.
