]]>Control will start filming in Berlin later this summer, and it’s inspired by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie’s award-winning podcast Shipworm. Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman of The Picture Company are producing this project under their long-term overall deal with Studiocanal, marking the fifth film they shot in the German capital in collaboration with Studio Babelsberg.
Control has been described as “a tense ticking-clock thriller”, and it centers on a doctor who wakes up one morning with an untraceable device planted in his head and must follow mysterious instructions to avoid facing dire consequences. Zack Akers wrote the script, with Andrew Baldwin doing the latest revision.
This role is right in McAvoy’s wheelhouse since he recently appeared in many tense thrillers, including M. Night Shyamalan’s Split and Glass. He’s fresh off starring on HBO/BBC series His Dark Materials, and we’ll soon get to see him in the epic film The Book of Clarence and another thriller Speak No Evil.

]]>Speak No Evil serves as the remake of Christian Tafdrup’s psychological thriller, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year. It centers on a Danish couple visiting a Dutch family they met on a holiday, but their idyllic weekend at a peaceful country house turns into a nightmare once their hosts start to test their limits.
James Watkins, who made his directorial debut with cult thriller Eden Lake before directing The Woman in Black and Bastille Day, will return in the director’s chair for the first time in eight years with this project. He wrote the script and serves as one of the producers.
This project sounds right in McAvoy’s wheelhouse, considering he starred in several hit thrillers in recent years. In addition to finding huge success with Split and Glass, he recently appeared in It Chapter Two and the mystery thriller My Son. He also has several exciting projects on the way, including Jeymes Samuel’s epic film The Book of Clarence.

]]>James McAvoy and Claire Foy are set to star in the movie, a remake of a French movie of the same name. McAvoy will play a father whose son went missing. He’ll travel to the city in which his ex-wife lives in order to find out what happened and bring his son home. However, as in the French original, McAvoy will not be given a script or any dialogue beforehand. While the other cast members will know what is happening, McAvoy will have to improvise and discover the plot himself.
Christian Carion, who directed the original movie, will helm this one as well. The movie rights were bought by STXfilms.
Adam Fogelson, chairman of STXfilms Motion Picture Group said that the group is thrilled about the new movie adaptation to wider audiences. “James will be doing the detective work of the film in real-time, on camera, to create real tension for this thriller. We like to support bold and innovative storytelling like My Son, and Claire could not be a more spectacular or exciting choice for this film which is certain to thrill audiences.”

]]>The performance is just slightly below what Universal had forecasted ($50 million). The film, starring Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, Sarah Paulson and James McAvoy, debuted on Thursday in 3,200 North American theaters and earned $3.7 million that night.
Shyamalan directed, wrote and financed film for a total of $20 million. He hired most of his former employees in past sequels for Glass. McAvoy reprised his character from the Split movie while both Willis and Jackson reprised their roles in the original Unbreakable movie.
Poor reviews may have shunned enthusiasm to view the film, which was originally forecasted to debut at $70 million. Fortunately, both the Upside and Aquaman also had unfavorable reviews but are leading box office numbers so far.

]]>The third part of the Unbreakable trilogy aka Glass, is about to hit cinemas (January 18). Fans have been excited for it since the moment at the end of Split where it became apparent that the events in the film take place in the Unbreakable universe.
In the original script, the revelation that Split is a sequel was a little more subtle. In fact, it was so subtle that the star if the film had no idea of the movie’s importance until rehearsals.
“I read the first version of Split that I got sent and there was a little tenuous clue there – if I had been sharper eyed, I’d have seen it, but I missed it,” James McAvoy admitted to Digital Spy. “I got into rehearsals and he kept talking about Unbreakable.”
“And then it became clear, it dawned on me, the veil was lifted and I was like, ‘Oh my God’. Then a few weeks after that, I came clean with him and I was like, ‘Dude, I did not get that at all’,” he explained.
“I think he realised that the little clue he was giving everybody just needed to be amped up and he ended up coming up with a really cool scene at the end as well.”
Glass is out in cinemas this Friday (January 18).
