James McAvoy Didn’t Know That “Split” Was the “Unbreakable” Sequel

James McAvoy had no idea that Split was a sequel to Unbreakable when he started rehearsals.

The third part of the Unbreakable trilogy aka Glass, is about to hit cinemas (January 18). Fans have been excited for it since the moment at the end of Split where it became apparent that the events in the film take place in the Unbreakable universe.

In the original script, the revelation that Split is a sequel was a little more subtle. In fact, it was so subtle that the star if the film had no idea of the movie’s importance until rehearsals.

“I read the first version of Split that I got sent and there was a little tenuous clue there – if I had been sharper eyed, I’d have seen it, but I missed it,” James McAvoy admitted to Digital Spy. “I got into rehearsals and he kept talking about Unbreakable.”

“And then it became clear, it dawned on me, the veil was lifted and I was like, ‘Oh my God’. Then a few weeks after that, I came clean with him and I was like, ‘Dude, I did not get that at all’,” he explained.

“I think he realised that the little clue he was giving everybody just needed to be amped up and he ended up coming up with a really cool scene at the end as well.”

Glass is out in cinemas this Friday (January 18).
