It’s been almost a decade since Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain both starred in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, and they’re gearing up for another collaboration. The two Oscar winners will star in Mother’s Instinct, and the first trailer for this film is as tense as it gets.

The official synopsis describes Mothers’ Instinct as an unnerving psychological thriller about two best friends and neighbors, Alice (Chastain) and Céline (Hathaway). Their perfect lives in ‘60s suburbia are shattered by a tragic accident involving one of their children, which ends up revealing the darker side of maternal love.

Jessica Chastain has long been a fan favorite to star in Netflix’s adaption of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, but this dream casting will never come to be. The Oscar-winning actress put the rumors to rest and said she won’t play Celia St. James in this project.

Chastain recently discussed Netflix’s adaptation with E! News‘ Francesca Amiker and said there’s “zero possibility” that she’ll take part.

“I love how excited the fans are. When I was working on Broadway, every single day, they’d be outside, when I was signing, with the books. I just love how wonderful that fan base is. I look forward to watching it and I’m sorry to disappoint everyone out there!” said Chastain.

Chastain emerged as a fan favorite to play Celia St. James in The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo due to her physical resemblance to the character, and fans even asked her to sign copies of Reid’s book. After refusing their requests on camera, Chastain explained that it feels wrong to sign a book she’s not attached to contractually and take credit for someone else’s work.

Liz Tigelaar is currently attached to adapt The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo for Netflix, with Leslye Headland serving as the director.

Michel Franco’s poignant drama Memory made quite a splash when it premiered in Venice this year, and its theatrical release date is just around the corner. The first trailer stars Jessica Chastain and Peter Sarsgaard as two damaged individuals trying to escape their past.

Memory centers on a social worker Sylvia, whose simple and structured life is blown open when Saul follows her home from their high school reunion. Their encounter opens the door to their past and profoundly impacts both of their lives.

With Memory, writer/director Michel Franco wanted to tell a story about people trying to escape from the shadows of their past and build a life in the present.

“I wanted to make a film about people who for whatever reason fall through the cracks of society. Their inability—or unwillingness—to conform to expectations is often rooted in events that only exist in their memories,” said Franco in a statement.

In addition to Chastain and Sarsgaard, this film also stars Brooke Timber, Merritt Wever, Elsie Fisher, Jessica Harper, and Josh Charles. It had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where Sarsgaard won the Volpi Cup for best actor. It will be released in selected theaters on December 22 before going wide on January 5, 2024.

The modern-day adaptation is co-created, written, and directed by Hagai Levi. This version aims to re-look at the show’s depiction of intense emotions, marriage, and divorce through the eyes of a contemporary American couple.

Chastain and Isaac previously worked together on A Most Violent Year. Chastain replaced Michelle Williams, who exited due to scheduling conflicts. This will be the actresses’ first notable TV appearance since the start of her career. She’s next set to star in The Eyes of Tammy Faye.

Isaac’s next roles are in Dune and The Card Counter.

Chastain and Isaac will also be executive producing with Michael Ellenberg, Amy Herzog, Lars Blomgren, Daniel Bergman, and Blair Breard.

The series will debut on HBO on September 12. Watch the trailer below.
