Nick Grad, president of original programming at FX Entertainment, announced the show’s renewal in an official statement, saying they’re excited to bring this show back for another round.

“Breeders has given us the special opportunity to watch the Worsley family grow with each season, and FX is thrilled to order a fourth season that will bring the next chapter of this hilarious yet brutally honest take on being a parent in today’s world,” said Grad.

He also expressed gratitude to the show’s creators Simon Blackwell, Chris Addison, and Martin Freeman, and the entire cast and crew for being a part of FX’s extended family.

FX developed this series in collaboration with the British network Sky. The first season premiered in March 2020 on both networks and the show’s supporting cast included Michael McKean, Stella Gonet, Joanna Bacon, Alun Armstrong, and Patrick Baladi.

According to Entertainment Weekly, in A Confession, the Sherlock alum plays Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher, who is investigating the disappearance of 22-year-old Sian O’Callaghan and piecing together her last movements before she vanished. Believing Sian may still be alive and held against her will, Fulcher initiates an urgent full-scale search operation. Through diligent and painstaking police work, Fulcher and his team discover CCTV footage of Sian in the High Street, which leads to vital clues in the investigation. Racing against time, Fulcher edges closer to a chief suspect, local taxi driver Christopher Halliwell, and ultimately finds himself standing on the precipice of a life-changing choice between following police protocol and catching a killer.

Also starring is Siobhan Finneran (Stan & Ollie)and Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter).

A Confession is directed by Paul Andrew Williams from a script by Jeff Pope.

A Confession, which premiered in ITV in 2019, premieres on BritBox in May.

The Sherlock star and Oscar-nominated and BAFTA-winning actress have been tapped to star in ITV’s upcoming new crime drama. 

The six-part true-story drama hails from writer Jeff Pope. The new series was unveiled Monday by ITV’s head of drama Polly Hill and will be co-produced by ITV Studios and Urban Myth Films.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, A Confession is based on the real-life event of the disappearance of a 22-year-old girl in March 2011 and will follow Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher, deliberately breached police procedure and protocol to catch a killer, a decision that ultimately cost him his career and reputation.

“I found this is a fascinating story to tell on a number of levels,” said Pope “On one hand it is a brilliant piece of detective work, but in order to find both girls Fulcher felt he had to deny Halliwell his rights as a suspect. It brings into question how we want our police to behave when someone goes missing. Should Fulcher have been praised as a courageous officer fighting for the life of a girl, or lose his career for riding roughshod over the law?”

A Confession is expected to air on ITV in 2019.

The Emmy award-winning series has completed 3 seasons since premiering in 2010, with no word on whether a 4th will come to fruition.

Martin, who stars as the beloved Dr. Watson, told the publication, “Being in that show, it is a mini-Beatles thing. People’s expectations, some of it’s not fun anymore. It’s not a thing to be enjoyed, it’s a thing of: ‘You better f–ing do this, otherwise, you’re a c–.’ That’s not fun anymore.”

When The Telegraph asked Sherlock himself for comment on the remarks and Benedict Cumberbatch was not impressed.

“It’s pretty pathetic if that’s all it takes to let you not want to take a grip of your reality,” he said. “What, because of expectations? I don’t know. I don’t necessarily agree with that… There’s a level of obsession where [the franchise] becomes [the fans’] even though we’re the ones making it. But I just don’t feel affected by that in the same way, I have to say.”

Now, Martin Freeman, who plays Sherlock’s right-hand man, Dr. John Watson, has given us a clue regarding the show’s future.

Speaking to The Telegraph, the Black Panther actor has revealed how fans have somewhat ruined the experience of bringing the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle figure to life.

“Being in that show, it is a mini-Beatles thing. People’s expectations, some of it’s not fun anymore. It’s not a thing to be enjoyed, it’s a thing of: ‘You better f—ing do this, otherwise, you’re a c—.’ That’s not fun anymore.”

Ouch.

Producers often had to work around both Martin and Benedict’s film-shooting schedules, with a 5th season of Sherlock not likely in the next 2-3 years, if at all.

Let’s hope that Mrs. Hudson has enough tea for us until then.
