Bad news, Sherlock fans — the game is up. And it appears as if we might be the culprit.

The series, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch in the titular role and is set in the modern era with Sherlock Holmes receiving text messages about his cases, aired its 4th season last year, with no confirmation as to whether it will return.

Now, Martin Freeman, who plays Sherlock’s right-hand man, Dr. John Watson, has given us a clue regarding the show’s future.

Speaking to The Telegraph, the Black Panther actor has revealed how fans have somewhat ruined the experience of bringing the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle figure to life.

“Being in that show, it is a mini-Beatles thing. People’s expectations, some of it’s not fun anymore. It’s not a thing to be enjoyed, it’s a thing of: ‘You better f—ing do this, otherwise, you’re a c—.’ That’s not fun anymore.”

Ouch.

Producers often had to work around both Martin and Benedict’s film-shooting schedules, with a 5th season of Sherlock not likely in the next 2-3 years, if at all.

Let’s hope that Mrs. Hudson has enough tea for us until then.
