Hudson will star as Isla Gordon, who has to take control of her family’s professional basketball franchise Los Angeles Waves after her brother is forced to step down as president after a scandal of epic proportions.

After being underappreciated her whole life, the ambitious and often overlooked Isla is finally ready to step up and prove her skeptical brothers, the board, and the sports community that she was the right choice for the job, especially in the unpredictable, male-dominated world of sports.

This workplace comedy is inspired by the front office of the Los Angeles Lakers, and it was initially announced with Elaine Ko (Modern Family) as writer/showrunner. Netflix later decided to go in a different direction and brought Kaling on board. She’s writing the series alongside Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen, who also serves as its showrunner.

Hudson’s most recent credits include movies A Little White Lie and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and the Apple TV+ show Truth Be Told. She’ll next appear in Max Minghella’s film Shell alongside Elizabeth Moss and Kaia Gerber.

The series comes from Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble and it centers around four young college freshmen who are roommates at New England’s prestigious Essex College. The women are from different backgrounds and they navigate their lives on campus.

In the teaser, the four roommates, who are played by Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, Reneé Rapp, and Alyah Chanelle Scott, are shown partying and having fun with each other, while struggling to adjust to morning wakeups.

Also joining the cast are Midori Francis, Gavin Leatherwood, Chris Meyer, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Lauren Spencer, and Renika Williams.

The show was inspired by Kaling and Noble’s lives in college. Kaling is executive producing with Howard Klein and Noble is also serving as showrunner.

Legally Blonde 3 was scheduled to air in February 2021, but due to the COVID 19 pandemic and movie theaters being closed, it was postponed.

The screenplay for the film was written by Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor (Brooklyn-Nine Nine and Parks and Recreation). A director has not been set yet and additional cast members haven’t been added. Plot details have also been under wraps.

Legally Blonde debuted in 2001 and instantly became a huge hit, earning $141 million at the box office. In addition to Reese Witherspoon, the cast included Luke Wilson, Selma Blair, and Jennifer Coolidge.

Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde was released in 2013 and it followed Elle to Washington D.C. as she fights to pass a law called Bruiser’s Bill, to stop makeup testing on animals. Although it didn’t fare well with critics, it grossed nearly $125 million globally.

The first film was turned into a Tony-nominated musical starring Laura Bell Bundy as Elle Woods and it ran on Broadway for a year.

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan’s Devi Vishwakumar will return as the lead along with Poorna Jagannathan, Richa Moorjani, Jaren Lewison, Darren Barnet, Lee Rodriguez, and Ramona Young.

Ramakrishnan is new to the acting world and she beat out 15,000 other actors in an open casting call.

The series focuses on the awkward high school experiences of Devi, a first-generation Indian American teenage girl who’s a hardworking high school sophomore with a bit of a temper. Devi deals with coping with her father’s sudden death while searching for love.

“It’s awesome because I’m seeing so many people saying, ‘Oh my God, I can relate to this so much.’ Whether it’s something as simple as one of the arm hair jokes — because let’s be real, even though I’m 100% confident with my arm hair, there are days where I go up to my father and I say, ‘Why did you do this to me? Why can’t you give me anything else?’” Ramakrishnan told Variety.

“Or somebody saying, ‘Thank you, this made me really realize I have some unpacking to do with the loss of a family member’…That’s all I wanted from this show. Emmys for the cast, Emmys for the direction, a Nobel Peace Prize — I’m not opposed — but, in all seriousness, this is all I wanted from the show,” she continued.

Variety confirms that WarnerMedia’s forthcoming streaming service has teamed up with Issa Rae, Elizabeth Banks, and Mindy Kaling for three new half-hour comedies.

According to sources, Rae and Banks’ projects are in development, while Kaling’s project has been ordered to series for 13 episodes.

“Elizabeth Banks, Issa Rae, and Mindy Kaling are three of the most gifted women in our industry, and are now bringing their impressive, original projects to HBO Max,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content, HBO Max.

“These three incredible talents embody the distinct and diverse voices that will give flight to the quality HBO Max brand promise across all audiences” added Kevin Reilly, chief content officer, HBO Max. 

HBO Max is set to launch in May 2020.

Kaling’s take on the 1994 classic follows a new generation of friends who reunite in London for a wedding before everything turns upside down.

According to the official synopsis “relationships are forged and broken, political scandals exposed, London social life lampooned, love affairs ignited and doused” in the TV adaptation of the beloved rom-com.

Four Weddings and a Funeral will premiere on Hulu on July 31st, and it will consist of a total of 12 episodes. The Game of Thrones veteran Nathalie Emmanuel will take on the lead role, and she’ll be joined by the cast of promising young actors, including Nikesh Patel, Rebecca Rittenhouse, Brandon Mychal Smith, and John Reynolds. They will be joined by Andie MacDowell, the star of the original film.

The Massachusetts native turned 40-years-old on June 24th and decided to do something special to mark the important milestone.

On the day, she posted a message on social media which read: “I’m so grateful to have my wonderful, peaceful life w/ my daughter Katherine. How lucky am I to turn 40? I would love to express my gratitude by donating $1000 to 40 different charitable orgs that help others. Pls suggest some! I will kick it off by giving $1000 to @RAICESTEXAS!”

Fans heeded the call for suggestions, with 4,500 replies on Twitter alone!

The recommendations — and resultant recipients — included included The Trevor Project which is a suicide prevention project for LGBT youth, a homeless charity in Los Angeles called Food on Foot, a New York charity named Girls Inc, and an enterprise giving employment to victims of sex trafficking known as Thistle Farms.

The streaming giant has ordered a new series inspires by the life of the 39-year-old actress. According to Variety, the still untitled project has received a 10-episode order and will follow the complicated life of a modern-day first generation Indian American teenage girl.

Kaling told the outlet, “Netflix approached me about doing a series on young Mindy. I wasn’t as interested in telling a period piece about an Indian girl growing up in the ’80s, but I told them I’d love to do a show about a 15 year old Indian girl now.”

The semi-autobiographical comedy is co-created, co-written and executive produced by Kaling and The Mindy Project co-exec producer Lang Fisher. Kaling and Fisher will also serve as showrunners. 

Kaling’s first major television gig was a writing job in the first season of The Office. She then went on to create and star in The Mindy Project.
