]]>James Gunn and Peter Safran took on the joint roles of chairperson and CEO at the beginning of November after advising Warner Bros. Discovery CEO, David Zaslav, during his search for a head of DC Films.
Although it was released during the pandemic and didn’t receive as good a response as the original which broke box office records, a sequel to Wonder Woman 1984 was announced shortly after it was re-released in theatres. Sadly, it seems that Wonder Woman 3 will not be going ahead as planned.
Director Patty Jenkins is believed to have handed in a treatment of the new film, but was told that it did not align with Gunn and Safran’s new vision for the DC Universe and that the project would thus not be made. Although neither Jenkins nor Warner Bros. has commented, Wonder Woman star, Gal Gadot, did post an intriguing message on social media.
“A few years ago it was announced that I was going to play Wonder Woman. I’ve been so grateful for the opportunity to play such an incredible, iconic character and more than anything I’m grateful for YOU. The fans. Can’t wait to share her next chapter with you.”

He also added that the director Patty Jenkins and the lead star Gal Gadot will “return to conclude the long-planned theatrical trilogy”.
Wonder Woman 1984 follows Diana Prince as she faces new formidable enemies in the midst of the Cold War, with the help of her love interest Steve Trevor. In addition to Gadot, the film stars Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, Robin Wright, and Connie Nielsen.
Not much is known about Wonder Woman 3 just yet, apart from the fact it was announced shortly after its predecessor grossed $85 million worldwide during its opening weekend. In addition to premiering in theaters on December 25th, Wonder Woman 1984 is also available on HBO Max.

]]>According to Deadline, this biopic was Gadot’s idea and she enlisted Laeta Kalogridis to write the script. The rights for this project were put on a virtual auction, and Paramount Pictures managed to come out victorious and secure the production credit.
Gadot will follow in the footsteps of Claudette Colbert, Vivien Leigh, and Elizabeth Taylor, who all portrayed Cleopatra in the past. She isn’t the only actress who was recently attached to this role—Sony Pictures has been plotting the adaptation of Stacy Schiff’s biography Cleopatra for years, with Angelina Jolie and Lady Gaga being eyed for the lead role at different stages of development.
Deadline reported that Kalogridis will start writing the script right away, with Gadot and Jenkins helping her shape the narrative. They met on the set of Wonder Woman and most recently filmed its sequel Wonder Woman 1984, set to be released this Christmas.

In addition to Gadot, it will also star Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Kristen Wiig, and Pedro Pascal. Just as the title suggests, the film will take place in 1984 and will show Wonder Woman as she faces two formidable foes—media mogul Maxwell Lord and friend-turned-enemy Barbara Minerva/Cheetah.

]]>Last weekend saw the release of the first official trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 giving fans their first major look at the highly anticipated sequel to the 2017 hit film starring Gal Gadot.
Much to fans’ delight, during her talk to press ahead of the film’s panel at Comic-Con Experience in São Paulo, Brazil on Sunday, Jenkins revealed that she already has a story for Wonder Woman 3, and there’s even talk of a spinoff focusing on the Amazons.
“We actually already know the whole story to [Wonder Woman 3] and then some because there is an Amazon [spinoff] movie as well and so we already have it all mapped out.”
She continued: “It’s just a matter of, will we change our minds, and when [to make it]. I think what we don’t want to do is do it back to back. It’s been great doing these two movies back to back, but I think it’s important to give it a little rest in between. And I like doing other things in between. And Gal has other things to do. I never want to make decisions too far in advance. We have to see if we both feel like making the movie we think we want to make when the moment comes.”
But don’t expect to see the third film anytime soon.
“The movie is done. Because it doesn’t come out for a few months, for the first time in my career which is so great,” added Jenkins.

]]>The sequel to the first Wonder Woman movie might still be a year away, but Jenkins already has plans for the film after that. The first sequel will be titled Wonder Woman 1984 and will follow our eponymous superhero in the ’80s.
Jenkins has admitted that her desire to tell the story of Wonder Woman in the ’80s was largely driven by the fact that this was the era when she herself became a fan of the comics. Speaking with Vanity Fair, she shared a little info on what she was like back then.
“I was in seventh grade or sixth grade, and . . . I became a punk rocker right around there, I was in the American hardcore scene,” she said. “It was the Bad Brains and Minor Threat and Hüsker Dü . . . there were all kinds. The Replacements. I was knee-deep in all of that.”
When discussing the future of the franchise, Jenkins revealed that she has a “great passion” for Wonder Woman and already knows the story she wants to tell.
“I have pretty clear plans for Wonder Woman 3,” Jenkins said. “Whether I [direct] it or not, I see how her arc should end in my incarnation of Wonder Woman. I have great passion for that.”
Wonder Woman 1984 will be released in the US June 5 2020.

We did it. Again!!. And as much as the first time shooting Wonder Woman was amazing, this time was even more unique and special.. We shot in 4 very different locations in 3 countries, and I’m so soooo proud of the almost 1000 crew members who came to set every day, giving everything they have into our movie.”
She continued: “Couldn’t ask for better partners on this.. I’m so lucky to have the one and only Patty Jenkins, as my director. Production on the sequel to last year’s Woman Woman film, Wonder Woman 1984 is already 3 weeks in, and members of the cast, as well its director, treated fans to some on-set secrets during Comic-Con.
Director Patty Jenkins revealed just why that decade had been chosen, saying, “One of my favorite things about making the original was that it took place during World War I in 1917, an era full of metaphors like modernity and the mechanized world. I grew up in the ’80s, and this has its own look and feel. The reason I am excited is it showed mankind at its best and worst. It was grand and wonderful, there was great music and there were elegant and beautiful things. But other things about the decade revealed the worst of us. To have Wonder Woman in that period of time that was us at our most extreme is wonderful.”
Jenkins also teased Chris Pine’s return (you may remember that Steve Trevor didn’t quite survive the first film…) telling the audience: “It’s something I’m super excited for everybody to see, [Chris] is a very important part of our movie.”
And if that wasn’t enough, those in Hall H also got to see a clip from the film which featured Wonder Woman, played by Gal Gadot, kicking ass in a mall.
