Several major award shows took place over the course of this past weekend, including the Production Guild Awards. The PGA Awards celebrated the best films and TV shows of the past year, with Everything Everywhere All At Once, The White Lotus, and The Bear making the cut.

Everything Everywhere was one of the films in the running for the outstanding producer of theatrical motion pictures. It had tough competition with the likes of Avatar: The Way of Water, The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, and Top Gun: Maverick, but that didn’t stop it from picking up the night’s most prestigious accolade.

When it comes to the rest of the film winners, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio won in the animated feature field, while Navalny took the award for outstanding producer of documentary theatrical motion pictures.

The TV field was pretty colorful, and The White Lotus and The Bear were two of the biggest winners of the night after winning the trophies for outstanding production of television drama and comedy, respectively. Will 1917 win the Oscar for best picture? Many think it will and this possibility seems now more likely as it just won the prize in this category at the Producers Guild Association awards. It should be noted that in recent years only two movies did not win the Oscars after winning this award – La La Land and The Big Short. However, it does not have any Best Editor or acting nominations.

“In these times of division and conflict all over the world, it’s just a reminder to never take for granted the peace that we all inherited,” producer Pippa Harris said while accepting the award.

The award for Best Animated Theatrical Motion Picture went to Toy Story 4. Succession won the award for Best Episodic Television (Drama) and Fleabag received the award for Best Episodic Television (comedy). Chernobyl won the Limited series award, Apollo: Missions to the Moon took the Televised or Streamed Motion Picture award, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver won the Live Entertainment & Talk Television award, Ru Paul’s Drag Race won the Game & Competition Television award, and Apollo 11 won the Documentary Motion Picture award.

Octavia Spencer won us over with her award-winning roles in The Help and Hidden Figures, but did you know she’s also a producer with several impressive credits under her belt? The Producers Guild of America was so impressed with her work in this field that they decided to reward her with the Visionary Award.

This special honor is reserved for individuals who share inspiring, uplifting stories that add unique value to society and culture. According to the guild’s presidents Gail Berman and Lucy Fisher, Spencer was a perfect fit because she understands how to harness the power of filmmaking to inspire audiences everywhere.

Spencer’s previous executive producer credits include indie dramas Fruitvale Station and Small Town Crime, and Academy Award-winning biopic Green Book. She’s next set to produce Netflix’s mini-series Madam C.J. Walker.
