Octavia Spencer won us over with her award-winning roles in The Help and Hidden Figures, but did you know she’s also a producer with several impressive credits under her belt? The Producers Guild of America was so impressed with her work in this field that they decided to reward her with the Visionary Award.

This special honor is reserved for individuals who share inspiring, uplifting stories that add unique value to society and culture. According to the guild’s presidents Gail Berman and Lucy Fisher, Spencer was a perfect fit because she understands how to harness the power of filmmaking to inspire audiences everywhere.

Spencer’s previous executive producer credits include indie dramas Fruitvale Station and Small Town Crime, and Academy Award-winning biopic Green Book. She’s next set to produce Netflix’s mini-series Madam C.J. Walker.

Spencer sees this Visionary Award as a huge honor and encouragement. “From the very beginning of my career in entertainment, I have been guided by my dream to create an impact through storytelling. This is an incredible highlight for me, and I extend my deepest thanks to the PGA for this award,” she said.
