]]>Snow White draws inspiration from the classic fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, and it centers on a young princess who’s taken in by a group of seven dwarves living in the woods after she’s exiled by her wicked stepmother.
The first look photo shows Zegler’s princess Snow White surrounded by the seven dwarfs – Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, and Sneezy. It also reveals that the studio relied on CGI to mimic the appearance of the characters from the original 1937 animated classic.
The studio previously said they’re “taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community” to avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, and added they’ll share more news as the film heads into production.
In addition to Zegler in the titular role, Snow White will also star Gal Gadot, Andrew Burnap, Ansu Kabia, and Colin Michael Carmichael. The film’s release date has been pushed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, and it’s now set to premiere on March 21, 2025.

]]>Brothers Grimm’s classic tale inspired many adaptations in the past—including Snow White and the Huntsman starring Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron and Mirror Mirror starring Lily Collins and Julia Roberts. These projects haven’t been affiliated with Disney and their live adaptation will draw inspiration from the classic 1937 animated movie.
Marc Webb, best known for his work on The Amazing Spider-Man movies, has been tapped as the director. Production is expected to start in 2022, and Gadot will be joined by Rachel Zegler, the star of Steven Spielberg’s upcoming West Side Story, in the role of Snow White.
Gadot is best known for her work on the Wonder Woman movies, but she’s been trying to make a shift to more versatile roles. She most recently appeared in Netflix’s action flick Red Notice alongside Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds, and she’s set to play the lead role in Patty Jenkins’ Cleopatra biopic.

]]>Director Marc Webb confirmed the news to Deadline, saying that Zegler’s “strength, intelligence, and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairytale.”
Zegler also shared her excitement about the casting in a series of social media posts.
Rachel Zegler still hasn’t made her official movie debut. She stars as the lead in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, but the feature won’t be out until later this year. She got the role of Maria back in 2018, responding to an open casting call and beating 30,000 other applicants.
Previously, Zegler was known for her YouTube channel, which she started in 2015. She previously uploaded covers of popular songs on it, but now mostly does vlogs and clips about her life in Hollywood.
Besides Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and West Side Story, Zegler will also be part of DC’s superhero movie Shazam! Fury of the Gods. She will “play a mysterious key role” in the latter one, but exact details remain unknown.

]]>The fairytale about the girl with skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood, and hair as black as ebony, first appeared on screen in the 1937 animated version, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.
In 2012, two versions of the classic story were released — Snow White and the Huntsman, starring Kristen Stewart as the titular character, and Mirror Mirror with Lily Collins.
Disney is now planning a new live-action retelling, and while no actress has been chosen to play the princess as yet, it appears as though the picture may have found a director.
According to Variety, Marc Webb is the top choice to helm the film.
Webb is known for directing 500 Days of Summer, The Amazing Spider-Man, and several music videos.
Screenwriter for Girl on the Train, Erin Cressida Wilson, is reportedly in negotiations to pen the script, while Academy Award-winning La La Land duo, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul will handle the music.
We’re sure it’ll be the fairest film of them all.
