]]>The Pablo Larrain directed film isn’t entirely true, rather it’s an imagining of what might have happened during the holiday period of 1991.
The new footage shows the glamorous life of the Princess of Wales at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate. While there’s tons of glitz and glam, there’s also lots of scrutiny during the Christmas festivities and Diana tells herself, “Three days, that’s it.” She becomes overwhelmed by the scrutiny and paparazzi and at the end of the trailer, she says, “There’s no hope for me. “Not with them.”
Joining the cast are Sally Hawkins, Olga Hellsing, Amy Manson, and Niklas Kohrt.
The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 5.

Spencer follows Princess Diana during the 1991 Christmas holiday she spent with the royal family at Sandringham House in Norfolk and details her decision to end the marriage with Prince Charles. The movie, which was penned by Peaky Blinders’ Steven Knight, is described as “imaging of what might have happened during those few fateful days.”
The feature entered production in early 2021 and wrapped up with filming in April. Besides Stewart, the cast includes Jack Farthing as Prince Charles, Timothy Spall, Sally Hawkins, and Sean Harris.
The life and death of Princess Diana have been a subject of numerous movies, TV series, and documentaries in the past. The most prominent include 2006’s The Queen, which focused on the aftermath of Princess Diana’s death and how it affected the Royal Family, and Naomi Watts-starred Diana, which follows the last two years of Princess Diana’s life.

]]>Directed by Pablo Larraín and based on the script by Steven Knight, Spencer takes place over three days in the early 90s. It’s set over the royal family’s Christmas holidays at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk when Princess Diana came to the conclusion that her marriage with Prince Charles is nearing its final moments.
In an official statement discussing her role in the project, the Charlie’s Angels actress described it as a dive inside an emotional imagining of who Diana was at a pivotal turning point in her life.
“It is a physical assertion of the sum of her parts, which starts with her given name; Spencer. It is a harrowing effort for her to return to herself, as Diana strives to hold onto what the name Spencer means to her,” stated Stewart.
In addition to Stewart, Spencer will also star Timothy Spall, Sally Hawkins, and Sean Harris. The project is currently filming in Germany before resuming production in the UK.

“We decided to get into a story about identity, and around how a woman decides somehow, not to be the queen. She’s a woman who, in the journey of the movie, decides and realizes that she wants to be the woman she was before she met Charles,” Larraín told Deadline.
He also described Princess Diana as “a powerful icon”, and said that Stewart felt like the right actress to play this role because she’s “very mysterious and very fragile an ultimately very strong” at the same time.
Stewart’s recent filmography includes the action blockbuster Charlie’s Angels and political thriller Seberg, based on the life of the French New Wave icon Jean Seberg. She’s also set to appear in Clea DuVall’s Happiest Season later this year.
