News of the cancelation comes just over a month after the series’ premiere, consistent with Netflix’s evaluation of a month worth of viewership data before making renewal decisions.
The series starred Kaya Scodelario as Kat Baker, a super talented elite ice-skater who takes a disastrous fall. But just before she hands her skated, Kat is presented with a second chance to compete on the ice as a pair skater opposite Evan Roderick’s bad boy Justin.
January Jones, Willow Shields, Amanda Zhou, Will Kemp, Svetlana Efremova, Mitchell Edwards, Sarah Wright Olsen, David James Elliott, Johnny Weir, Kaitlyn Leeb, and Jonathan Van Ness also starred in the series.
Spinning Out received mostly positive reviews from critics, holding a 63% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes per Variety.

“I’m used to skating alone. I need time to adjust, ” Kat tells her new partner in the trailer.
January Jones, Willow Shields, Amanda Zhou, Sarah Wright Olsen, and Svetlana Efremova also star in the series.
The 10-episode series is set to debut on January 1, 2020.

]]>The Mad Men alumna is tapped to play a lead role opposite Kaya Scodelario. Jones will play Carol Baker, the mother of Kat (Scodelario) and Serena (Willow Shields).
The official longline for the upcoming figure skating drama reads: “When Kat seizes an opportunity to continue her career as a pair skater with a talented bad-boy partner, she risks exposing a fiercely kept secret that could unravel her entire life. On and off the ice, Kat and her new partner will face daunting odds, injury to body and soul, financial sacrifice, and even potential mental breakdown on their way to realizing their Olympic dream.”
According to Deadline, Carol is a former figure skater who had to give up on her dreams when she became pregnant with her oldest daughter at a young age. Carol fiercely pushes both her girls to become Olympians in order to fulfill the dream she could never achieve herself. Simultaneously, she struggles with personal demons that threaten to ruin her relationship with her daughters.
Johnny Weir, Sarah Wright Olsen, Will Kemp, Kaitlyn Leeb, Amanda Zhou, and Mitchell Edwards round out the cast.

Spinning Out centers on Kat Baker (Scodelario), an up-and-coming single skater. After a disastrous fall, she realizes she can continue her career if she enters the paired skating division. She partners with “a talented bad boy” named Justin (Roderick), however, their partnership “risks exposing a fiercely kept secret that could unravel her entire life,” according to the show’s official logline.
Weir will play Gabe, an ice skater who may seem like an easy-going guy, but underneath he’s a cutthroat competitor who’ll stop at nothing to beat Kat and Justin.
Spinning Out was created by Samantha Stratton, who will also serve as co-showrunner with Lara Olsen (90210).

]]>According to Variety, Willow Shields has been cast in Spinning Out, Netflix’s upcoming ice skating drama series. Cast in a series regular role she will star opposite Kaya Scodelario. Scodelario was announced as the series lead on Thursday, taking over from Emma Roberts, who exited the project.
The series follows Kat Baker (Scodelario), an up-and-coming, high-level single skater who’s about to turn in her skates after a disastrous fall took her off the competition track when she seizes an opportunity to continue her career as a pair skater. Shields will star as Serena, Kat’s younger sister. While Serena lacks her sister’s natural grace on the ice, she makes up for it with discipline and fierce determination.
The series was created by Samantha Stratton, a former competitive figure skater herself. She will also serve as executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Lara Olsen.
