]]>Star Trek: Discovery is set a decade before the original Star Trek series, and it centers on the crew of the starship Discovery. As the series progressed, we watched its crew discover new worlds and lifeforms, help end the Klingon war, and travel 900 years into their future, where they embark on new galactic adventures.
The cast of Star Trek: Discovery was led by Sonequa Martin-Green, and it also included Doug Jones, Shazad Latif, Anthony Rapp, Mary Wiseman, Jason Isaacs, Wilson Cruz, Anson Mount, David Ajala, Rachael Ancheril, Blu del Barrio, and Tig Notaro.
Co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise confirmed the show’s cancelation in a joint statement and said it’s been an immense honor and privilege to help bring Star Trek: Discovery to the world.
“To the fans around the world, thank you for joining us on this incredible journey. We can’t wait for you to see what we’ve been working on for this final season; we appreciate your patience in the meantime and trust us when we say it’ll be worth the wait,” said the duo in a statement.

]]>Exact details are still unknown as it is not clear whether she meant that production itself has begun or rather the pre-production stage. It should be noted that the third season was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic so it’s possible that the crew used the time in lockdown to develop the next season.
In the meantime, the series is still going strong as it pumped new life into the franchise. The network has also greenlighted a new spinoff, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which will follow Captain Pike.
The current season can be seen as kind of a reboot of the show, with the ship changing location and timeline. It also includes new characters such as Adira, a Trill who is played by Blu Del Barrio, a non-binary actor.

]]>When asked about this possibility during CBS All Access’ Television Critics Association day, head of Original Content, Julie McNamara, confirmed it is a possibility. “We’ve definitely heard fans that people are excited about the notion of that. We have heard them loud and clear. We also thought there was incredible chemistry around that bridge crew so, among many things that we talk about, that idea is certainly one of them,” she said.
Along with the third season of Discovery and the new Picard series, Producers Alex Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman have two more live-action series in development. Michelle Yeoh’s character Georgiou is getting her own spin-off series as well and this just might be the second one.

]]>The show’s executive producer, Michelle Paradise, has revealed this fact during a CBS panel at this year’s Television Critics Association Press Tour. “I will remind that in our finale, as Pike was leaving, he said, ‘We are going to need to choose a new captain.’ Saru said, ‘Let’s put a pin in that and see what happens.’ Discovery will need a captain. The pin will need to come out. We will need to address that in the story,” said paradise.
In the second season’s finale, the ship traveled 930 years into the show’s future, while the captain, Pike, was left behind– so it seems the writers will indeed have to find a new character to captain the ship.
Two of the leading candidates for the position are Commander Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) who was a first officer in her past and Commander Saru ( Doug Jones), who was an acting captain in several occasion. Will one of them rise to the leadership or will the writers choose to introduce a new character to the roster?

]]>Executive producer Alex Kurtzman, who co-created this hit sci-fi show with Bryan Fuller, admitted finding an actor capable of embodying this icon wasn’t an easy task. Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto managed to bring “incomparable humanity to a character forever torn between logic and emotion”. Kurtzman was hoping they’ll find someone new, who’s talented enough to do the same thing.
“We searched for months for an actor who would, like them, bring his own interpretation to the role. An actor who would, like them, effortlessly embody Spock’s greatest qualities, beyond obvious logic: empathy, intuition, compassion, confusion, and yearning. Ethan Peck walked into the room inhabiting all of these qualities.” said Kurtzman.
Ethan Peck is the grandson of the Hollywood legend Gregory Peck. Before being cast as Spock, he played one of the lead roles in the TV remake of 10 Things I Hate About You. He also appeared in sci-fi thriller In Time, alongside Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait for at least a year to see him as Spock, since the second season of Star Trek: Discovery won’t premiere until 2019.
