Paramount+ has given us the longest-running original drama since its launch with Star Trek: Discovery, but its final chapter is just around the corner. The streamer announced that this sci-fi epic will end with its upcoming fifth season, set to premiere in early 2024.

Star Trek: Discovery is set a decade before the original Star Trek series, and it centers on the crew of the starship Discovery. As the series progressed, we watched its crew discover new worlds and lifeforms, help end the Klingon war, and travel 900 years into their future, where they embark on new galactic adventures.

The cast of Star Trek: Discovery was led by Sonequa Martin-Green, and it also included Doug Jones, Shazad Latif, Anthony Rapp, Mary Wiseman, Jason Isaacs, Wilson Cruz, Anson Mount, David Ajala, Rachael Ancheril, Blu del Barrio, and Tig Notaro.

Co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise confirmed the show’s cancelation in a joint statement and said it’s been an immense honor and privilege to help bring Star Trek: Discovery to the world.

“To the fans around the world, thank you for joining us on this incredible journey. We can’t wait for you to see what we’ve been working on for this final season; we appreciate your patience in the meantime and trust us when we say it’ll be worth the wait,” said the duo in a statement.
