]]>Waititi discussed his work with Marvel during a recent interview with SmartLess podcast. He said he accepted this gig for money, adding he felt no pressure because he felt they only called him because they didn’t have anywhere to go with the Thor franchise.
“You know what? I had no interest in doing one of those films. It wasn’t on my plan for my career as an auteur. But I was poor and I’d just had a second child, and I thought, ‘You know what, this would be a great opportunity to feed these children,’” joked Waititi.
Waititi helped revitalize the Marvel franchise with Thor: Ragnarok, but its sequel Thor: Love and Thunder wasn’t as successful and it failed to impress the critics. The Oscar-winning filmmaker recently told Business Insider that he won’t direct the fifth Thor movie because he’s focusing on other projects, but added he’s open to returning in the future because he loves working with Chris Hemsworth.

]]>Directed by the Oscar-winning filmmaker Taika Waititi, Next Goal Wins centers on the true story of the American Samoa soccer team. Following their infamous 31-0 loss to Australia in the FIFA World Cup qualification in 2001, they decide to turn things around by hiring down-on-his-luck, maverick coach Thomas Rongen (Fassbender).
This heartfelt underdog comedy will show Rongen doing everything in his power to turn one of the world’s worst soccer teams into an elite squad, in an attempt to eventually lead them to the FIFA World Cup.
Waititi wrote the script for this project with Iain Morris, and he also plays one of the supporting roles alongside Elisabeth Moss, Oscar Kightley, Uli Latukefu, Rachel House, Kaimana, David Fane, Beulah Koale, Chris Alosio, Will Arnett, and his frequent collaborator Rhys Darby.
Next Goal Wins was filmed in Honolulu, Hawaii between late 2019 and early 2020, and it will be released by Searchlight Pictures on November 17 after several major delays.

]]>This project is still in the early stages of development, but Waititi is reportedly working on a script, and he would most likely star in it, as well. The Oscar-winning writer of Jojo Rabbit is currently looking for his next project, which will serve as a follow-up to this year’s sports comedy Next Goal Wins.
It’s not a shocker to see Lucasfilm eye Waititi for one of the Star Wars movies since he already had success directing blockbusters for another Disney-affiliated studio. Waititi found worldwide fame after directing Marvel’s superhero flick Thor: Ragnarok and later returned for its sequel Thor: Love and Thunder.
The future of Waititi’s Star Wars may be looking bright, but the same thing can’t be said about several other projects in this franchise. Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron and the Kevin Feige project that has Michael Waldron attached as a writer are no longer in active development, and their future remains uncertain amid the latest Lucasfilm shakedown.

In the photo, the Thor: Love and Thunder director can be seen embracing the artist who captioned the post, “Good times, memories, random things on my phone and the ones I love.”
Although the pair attended the world premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under together at the Sydney Opera House a week later, their official carpet debut as a couple only came in August 2021 at the Los Angeles premiere of Suicide Squad 2.
According to reports, the lovebirds made things even more official during an intimate ceremony in London where they said their “I do’s”.
“Despite living in the spotlight, Rita is determined to keep the relationship as private as possible and didn’t want to make a big song and dance about the wedding,” claimed a source. “A big, showbiz-style bash is planned to celebrate, but don’t expect to see it being flogged to the highest-bidding magazine.”
The newlyweds have been spotted wearing gold wedding bands, with Rita supposedly planning to go by the name Mrs. Waititi-Ora.
This marks the singer’s first marriage and the second for the Oscar winner who has two daughters with his ex-wife, Chelsea Winstanley.

Even though he has zero interest in releasing his director’s cut, the Oscar-winning filmmaker revealed what it would look like. He said it would probably have a few more jokes and deleted scenes, but added they were deleted because they were not good enough.
Thor: Love and Thunder is playing in theatres right now and it grossed over $300 million since its premiere on July 8. Its cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Russell Crowe, and the ensemble of Guardian of the Galaxy.
