Our Flag Means Death created quite a splash since premiering on HBO Max in March and its crew is getting ready to set sails for another epic adventure. The critically acclaimed pirate comedy has been renewed for its second season.

Our Flag Means Death is loosely based on the adventures of Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby), the 18th-century aristocrat who left his comfortable life behind to become a pirate during the Golden Age of Piracy. The series chronicles his life on the high seas and his relationship with the fellow pirate Edward Teach aka Blackbeard (Taika Waititi).

Waititi serves as one of the show’s executive producers, alongside showrunner David Jenkins, who thanked HBO Max, the rest of the executive producers, and the show’s wildly enthusiastic audience for making another voyage to this world possible.

“We felt the show was special while we were making it, but Fans’ open-armed embrace of the inhabitants of the Revenge makes heading into a second season all the more sweet,” said Jenkins in a statement.

Our Flag Means Death also stars Nathan Foad, Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matt Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, Guz Khan, David Fane, Rory Kinnear, Samba Schutte, Nat Faxon, Fred Armisen, and Leslie Jones. The first season premiered on HBO Max on March 3 and received critical acclaim for its humor and LGBT+ representation.
