]]>The Conners has been developed as a spinoff of the popular 90s series Roseanne, but it shifted the focus to other characters after Roseanne Barr departed the series. Many of the original stars returned for the sequel, including John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, Michael Fishman, and Emma Kenney.
The renewal of The Conners doesn’t come as a shocker since it’s one of ABC’s highest-rated sitcoms. The show’s ratings significantly dropped since its first season, but its numbers are still strong, with its latest season averaging around 3.8 million viewers.
Executive producer Bruce Helford previously hinted that Season 6 might be the show’s last, but ABC is yet to address these comments.
“Sara Gilbert expressed to the network that we don’t want to go out without knowing that we are going out with a series finale so we can build to the right ending – and at this point in time, we feel that [next season] is possibly going to be the last season of The Conners,” he told TV Line.
In addition to The Conners, ABC renewed another eight shows on Tuesday, including The Bachelor, American Idol, and Shark Tank, among others.

]]>Goldberg will take on the role of Ms. Glen, Mark’s (Ames McNamara) intimidating music teacher, who goes way back with another member of the Conner family. She’ll appear on the show in the guest starring capacity, and it’s unclear how many episodes she’s going to star in.
Goldberg has been serving as the moderator and co-host of The View for the past 15 years, but she’s yet to say goodbye to acting. She most recently starred in Harlem and Star Trek: Picard, and we’ll soon get to see her in Neil Gaiman’s series adaptation of Anansi Boys.
The new season of The Conners sees Dan (John Goodman), Jackie (Laurie Metcalf), Darlene (Sara Gilbert), and Becky (Lecy Goranson) face the daily struggles of life in Lanford, as they try to grapple with parenthood, dating, financial pressures and aging in working-class America.
The Conners premiered in 2018, and its fifth season is currently airing on ABC. It will feature a total of 22 episodes and it’s set to end its run on May 31.

]]>Bergen will star in The Conners third season when it returns on January 13, playing Ben’s (Jay R. Ferguson) mother, Barb. Barb is from Lanford as she’s a bit arrogant, with a sharp tongue, but once she’s had a few drinks, she’s much more agreeable. She doesn’t approve of Ben’s relationship with Darlene (Sara Gilbert) and in the promo, she describes the Conner house as “Like one of those places they break into on that program Cops.”
The Conners is the highest-rated broadcast comedy among adults 18-49 this season and it stars John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, Michael Fishman, Emma Kenney, Ames McNamara, Jayden Rey, and Jay R. Ferguson.
Bergen earned five Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes for her role as Murphy Brown. She reprised the role and executive produced the 2018 revival. During that same year, she starred in Book Club alongside Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton, and Mary Steenburgen. She’s currently starring alongside Meryl Streep and Dianne Wiest in Let Them All Talk.

]]>The newest casting addition to The Conners has been announced — Broderick has scored a guest arc on the show’s revival.
The 56-year-old actor will play Aunt Jackie’s (Laurie Metcalf) new love interest. He’ll make his first appearance on the show’s Halloween episode, airing on Tuesday, October 30.
Here’s the official logline for the episode titled, There Won’t Be Blood: “It’s Halloween, the favorite time of year for the Conners, but an email from the school banning certain costumes, including Mark’s, sets off an argument between Dan and Darlene. Jackie introduces someone new to the family at the Halloween party and insists that Dan vet him, only to immediately wish that she hadn’t, on an all-new episode of The Conners.”
The news of the casting comes after Netflix revealed that Broderick will be joining the cast of the Daybreak. According to Entertainment Tonight, he’ll be playing the “cheerful, upbeat” Principal Burr. His character is described as “genuinely trying to be part of the solution: a good guy, an advocate and ally for all.”

]]>Barr recently made an appearance on Rabbi Shmuley Boteach’s podcast and was asked whether she will watch The Conners. She responded that she doesn’t plan on watching the show and will move to Israel for a few months instead.
“I have an opportunity to go to Israel for a few months and study with my favorite teachers over there, and that’s where I’m going to go and probably move somewhere there and study with my favorite teachers,” – the 65-year-old told Shmuley. “I have saved a few pennies and I’m so lucky I can go.”
Barr also wasn’t keen on giving more elaborate answers when pressed to offer her opinion on the spinoff and the death of her character on the original show.
“I’m staying away from it. Not wishing bad on anyone and I don’t wish good for my enemies,” – she said. “That’s what I gotta do.”
At first, ABC’s revival of their ’90s sitcom Roseanne, which starred Roseanne Barr in the leading role, was a huge success and the most watched comedy in 2017/2018 TV season. But, the network decided to pull the plug on the revival in May after series of controversial tweets posted by Barr on her official Twitter account.
After the cancelation of the original show, ABC started working on a spinoff which would star the rest of Roseanne’s cast including John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, Michael Fishman, Emma Kenney, Ames McNamara, and Jayden Rey. The network officially confirmed the spinoff, now titled The Conners, in June setting the premiere date for October 16, 2018.

Roseanne regulars John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Michael Fishman and Lecy Goranson aren’t the only ones reprising their roles. Jayden Rey, Ames McNamara and Emma Kenney, who played the Conners’ grandkids in Roseanne revival, are ready for a comeback.
In addition to sharing the first photo with the fans, ABC also surprised them by dropping the first teaser. The short promo video is pretty mysterious since it only features slow zoom of the family’s familiar couch. It ends with a question “What’s next?” but nobody enters the room providing us with answers.
We’ll have to wait until October 16 for the mystery to be resolved – that’s when The Conners comes to ABC. The cast is returning for 10 episodes, but if this new sitcom replicates the success of Roseanne revival, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if the network ordered more.
