The Rolling Stones’ latest also outsold the rest of the top five in the UK this week.

Hackney Diamonds is The Rolling Stones’ 11th studio album to hit No. 1 in the UK, and 14th overall, including greatest hits albums, reissues, and live albums. They level with Robbie Williams, who also has 14 UK No. 1s under his belt, and are just behind The Beatles with 16.

Hackney Diamonds hit the shelves October 20, and it marks The Rolling Stones’ first album of new material in almost two decades. The Rolling Stones initially teased their next album by publishing a mysterious ad in a local Hackney newspaper. They decided to make things official by hosting a livestream event from the Hackney Empire Theatre in London, where they shared all the crucial info about their next studio album.

They also shared a music video for the album’s lead single “Angry”, starring the Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney. The video shows her being driven all around Los Angeles in a red convertible and noticing huge billboards of The Rolling Stones everywhere she goes.

“Angry” will be one of 12 tracks featured on Hackney Diamonds, along with several high-profile collaborations, including “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” ft. Lady Gaga, and Stevie Wonder, and “Bite My Head Off” with Paul McCartney on bass guitar.

Hackney Diamonds will be released on October 20, and it will mark the band’s last album to feature the late drummer Charlie Watts. It will also be their first LP of the original material since A Bigger Bang in 2005.

The video was filmed in a socially distanced Claridge’s hotel in London, and it’s truly a wild ride. It shows Mescal dancing around at an empty hotel, lip-syncing to the song’s lyrics, and having the time of his life.

“Scarlet” isn’t a new song by The Rolling Stones. They actually recorded it all the way back in 1974 with Jimmy Page, and according to Keith Richards, their initial plan was to simply record a demo.

“Scarlet” is set to be released on the upcoming deluxe edition of Goats Head Soup, the band’s chart-topping album from 1973. It will hit the shelves on September 4th, and feature remastered versions of the songs on the album, several demos, outtakes, alternative mixes, and one of the shows from the Goats Head Soup tour.

Talking about the song, Mick Jagger said, “I remember first jamming this with Jimmy and Keith in Ronnie’s basement studio. It was a great session.” Kith Richards added: ”My recollection is we walked in at the end of a Zeppelin session. They were just leaving, and we were booked in next and I believe that Jimmy decided to stay. We weren’t actually cutting it as a track, it was basically for a demo, a demonstration, you know, just to get the feel of it, but it came out well, with a line up like that, you know, we better use it.”

Goats Head Soup 2020 will feature 10 previously unreleased tracks and a full concert from 1973, the year of the album’s release.

Mick Jagger said she wrote the lyrics for this track alongside Keith Richards in only ten minutes. They’ve started working on it last year and finished it remotely because they felt now’s the best time for the world to hear it.

“So the Stones were in the studio recording some new material before the lockdown and there was one song we thought would resonate through the times that we’re living in right now,” said Jagger in a press release.
