The post Tim Burton Dismisses the Possibility of “The Nightmare Before Christmas” Sequel appeared first on EverydayKoala.
]]>The Nightmare Before Christmas celebrated its 30th anniversary this year, and Burton told Empire he’s not interested in revisiting this world by making a sequel.
“I’ve done sequels, I’ve done other things, I’ve done reboots… I don’t want that to happen to this. It’s nice that people are maybe interested, but I’m not… I feel like that old guy who owns a little piece of property and won’t sell to the big power plant that wants to take my land,” said Burton.
Contrary to popular belief, Burton didn’t actually direct The Nightmare Before Christmas. Henry Selick made his feature directorial debut with this film, drawing inspiration from Burton’s story, who also served as one of the film’s producers.
Burton repeatedly spoke against the potential sequel to The Nightmare Before Christmas and said he was always protective of the original movie. Selick, on the other hand, said he’d like to see Jack Skellington’s origin story, but he’d only hop on board if Burton was interested.

]]>The Independent recently published an interview with Burton, where he discussed several future projects including Beetlejuice 2. This sequel allowed him to go back to his roots, and he said they only have about a day and a half of filming left after the SAG-AFTRA strike is over.
“On this last one, Beetlejuice 2, I really enjoyed it. I tried to strip everything and go back to the basics of working with good people and actors and puppets. It was kind of like going back to why I liked making movies… I feel grateful we got what we got,” explained Burton.
Beetlejuice 2 serves as the sequel to Burton’s 1988 cult classic about the obnoxious spirit Beetlejuice, who’s been hired by the ghosts of a dead couple to scare away an annoying family living in their old home. Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara will return to their respective roles from the first film, with Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci, and Justin Theroux joining them.

]]>The end result, however, did not reach the height of the first adaptation. Now, imagine what it could have been if the main part was played by Dwayne Johnson. In his Instagram account, The Rock revealed that he was considered for the part and was very enthusiastic about it.
As of 2005, Johnson was nowhere close to being the household name he is today and it is frankly hard to imagine the big muscular man playing such a quirky character back then—as he himself admits. “I was just starting out in Hollywood with no foundation of global box office strength or any real acting experience to even pull it off,” he wrote in his post.
Nevertheless, Johnson wrote he was happy to be considered. “I’ll always raise a glass to the dreams that don’t come true,” he wrote.

]]>Seven months after Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween was released, the book’s creator R.L. Stine revealed this week that he had made communications with Burton in the ‘90s to produce a film for the book. The book had already made a deal with Fox but the communications broke down when he met Burton.
“We had a movie deal to do a Goosebumps movie, and I can’t tell you what it was. It was like the height of Goosebumps, back in ’94, ’95, around here and we actually had a deal with Fox to do a movie,” Stine said. “We had a big meeting (with Burton) and I thought, ‘Ohm that’ll be great. Tim Burton and Goosebumps. It’ll be great.’ And we had a nice meeting with him, and we had a great time and we talked about what we should do, and then nothing happened.”
Stine managed to get a deal for the movie in 2014 and it was released in August 2015, months before its scheduled due date in 2016.
