Netflix Sets Wednesday Addams Live-Action Series with Tim Burton Directing

Christina Ricci in "The Addams Family"

A Wednesday Addams series has been ordered by Netflix with Tim Burton set to direct and executive produce.

Netflix has given the coming-of-age series an eight-episode order. The series, created by Al Gough and Miles Millar, will be based on the character originally created by Charles Addams.

Wednesday is a supernatural mystery that follows Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. She tries to mater her psychic ability, stop a monstrous killing spree, and solve the supernatural mystery that her parents faced 25 years ago, while dealing with her relationships at Nevermore.

Lisa Loring originally playing the character in the 1960s Addams Family TV series and since then, Wednesday has been portrayed onscreen many times over the years. Christina Ricci played the character in two Addams Family features in the 1990s and Chloë Grace Moretz voices Wednesday in the animated films.

This will be one of the few television projects of Burton’s career. He’s best known for his film work including Edward Scissorhands, Batman, Batman Returns, Ed Wood, and Mars Attacks. His TV work includes Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Beetlejuice.
