The Rolling Stones knocked it out of the park with their latest album Hackney Diamonds, and they’re already reaping the fruits of their labor. The legendary rockers easily topped the charts in the United Kingdom with Hackney Diamonds, scoring their 14th No. 1 album in this country along the way.

With 72,200 chart units earned during its first week on the chart, Hackney Diamonds scored the third biggest week of sales for an album in 2023, behind Lewis Capaldi’s Broken by Desire to be Heavenly Sent and Ed Sheeran’s Subtract. The Rolling Stones’ latest also outsold the rest of the top five in the UK this week.

Hackney Diamonds is The Rolling Stones’ 11th studio album to hit No. 1 in the UK, and 14th overall, including greatest hits albums, reissues, and live albums. They level with Robbie Williams, who also has 14 UK No. 1s under his belt, and are just behind The Beatles with 16.

Hackney Diamonds hit the shelves October 20, and it marks The Rolling Stones’ first album of new material in almost two decades. Its release was proceeded by hit singles “Angry” and “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” ft. Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder. Elton John, Paul McCartney, and former Rolling Stone bassist Bill Wyman were also featured on the album.

Ed Sheeran never had any trouble topping the charts in his home country, and he did it once again! He welcomed a new season with Autumn Variations, which became his seventh consecutive album to top the charts in the UK.

Autumn Variations was released on September 29, through Sheeran’s own label Gingerbread Man. It featured a total of 14 songs, each one honoring a different one of his friends, inspired by the same concept that shaped Edward Elgar’s seminal work Enigma Variations.

Sheeran thanked his fans for listening to Autumn Variations and making it No. 1 and said he hopes they’ll continue liking this album.

“It’s my first album on my own record label [Gingerbread Man Records], so this means more than any other award I’ve had. Thanks for all the support; it’s been amazing to get reconnected with the fans over the past few months,” Sheeran said in an official statement to Official Charts.

As for the rest of the UK chart for this week, Olivia Rodrigo’s second studio album Guts returned to No. 2 for the third consecutive week, while Jorja Smith’s Falling or Flying took the No. 3 spot. Doja Cat’s “Paint the Town Red” returned to No. 1 on the Official Singles Chart, followed by Kenya Grace’s “Strangers” and Tate McRae’s “Greedy”.

Olivia Rodrigo knocked it out of the park with her sophomore studio album Guts, and it was just a matter of time before this album soared to the top of the charts. That moment is finally here, and Guts is officially here second album to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Guts soared to No. 1 with 302,000 equivalent album units earned in the United States, including 150,000 in pure album sales—powered by 94,000 in vinyl sales alone! SEA units comprise 151,000, equaling to 199.59 million on-demand official streams across the album’s 12 songs.

Guts is Rodrigo’s second album to debut at No. 1 following her first studio album Sour, and it even managed to surpass it by approximately 7,000 more units in its first week. Rodrigo is also the first female artist since Ariana Grande to debut at No. 1 with their two first chart entries.

Olivia Rodrigo’s “Vampire” has been steadily climbing up the UK Singles Chart since its release in June, and it finally reached the top! It became her third single to top the charts in this country, helping Rodrigo set the record as the female solo artist with the most no. 1 singles in the UK this decade.

Originally released on June 30, “Vampire” immediately debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart, but it took a while before it climbed to the top in the UK. Its steady climb to no. 1 was stopped by several songs from Barbie: The Album, but it finally managed to reach the top last week, becoming Rodrigo’s third song to do so, following “Drivers License” and “Good 4 U”.

“Vampire” also transformed Rodrigo into a female solo artist with most songs to top the chart in the UK during the 2020s, but she recently told The Guardian she was never too concerned about breaking records.

“It’s not attainable to try to beat yourself. It felt like lightning in a bottle. Anything public, charting, no. 1s, all the records – that’s just so beyond my control so there’s no point in worrying about it,” explained Rodrigo.

“Vampire” serves as the lead single from the singer’s highly-anticipated sophomore studio album Guts, set to hit the shelves on September 8.

Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night” has steadily been climbing to the top of the charts since its release in May, and its rise is finally over. The lead single from Barbie: The Album hit no. 1 on the Official Singles Chart in the UK, becoming her fourth single to do so.

Lipa celebrated the amazing news by sharing a photo of herself posing with the Barbie doll of herself and her latest Official Charts trophy. She previously hit no. 1 with three different songs – “New Rules” (2017), “One Kiss” with Calvin Harris (2018), and “Cold Heart” with Elton John (2021).

“Dance the Night” replaces Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For” as the latest song from Barbie: The Album to top the charts in the UK, and it’s been a part of two historic weeks before ever hitting no. 1. Just last week, it helped lead the girl power takeover on the Official Singles Chart, when songs by female solo artist charted in the top six in the UK for the first time in history.

“Dance the Night” also helped Barbie: The Album make history as the first soundtrack album to have three songs in the top five simultaneously, along with Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” and “Barbie World” by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice ft. Aqua.

For the first time in the history of the UK Singles Chart, six songs by solo female performers are leading the way, starting with Billie Eilish. She scored her second No. 1 single in the UK with a soaring ballad “What Was I Made For?” from the Barbie soundtrack.

Eilish previously topped the UK chart with a theme song from another hit movie—the latest James Bond installment No Time To Die. Her wait for the second No. 1 single is finally over thanks to “What Was I Made For?”, which also peaked at No. 14 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Eilish is in pretty good company on this week’s UK Singles Chart, and she’s leading what they describe as “the summer of girl power”. She’s followed by the fellow Barbie: The Album performer Dua Lipa with “Dance the Night”, while Olivia Rodrigo’s “Vampire”, Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer”, Peggy Gou’s “(It Goes Like) Nanana”, and Rodrigo’s “Bad Idea Right” take the next four spots.

“What Was I Made For?” was originally released as the fourth single from Barbie: The Album and this isn’t the first time this soundtrack made history in the UK. It became the first soundtrack to have three songs chart within the top five at the same time, including “What Was I Made For?”, “Dance the Night”, and “Barbie World” by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice ft. Elton John may be one of the biggest British music legends of all time, but it’s been a while since he hit no 1. in his home country. That finally changed thanks to his Dua Lipa collaboration “Cold Heart”, which became his first chart-topping UK single in 16 years.

After three consecutive weeks at no. 2, “Cold Heart” replaced Ed Sheeran’s “Shivers” on the top spot. There’s no bad blood between the two artists, and Sheeran even asked his fans to go buy and stream “Cold Heart” and help John achieve this historic feat.

The 74-year-old British hitmaker celebrated his latest chart achievement by sharing a photo that shows him recovering from hip replacement surgery, and took a moment to express gratitude to everyone involved in his latest success.

The Lockdown Sessions is set to hit the shelves on October 22nd, and it will also feature collaborations with Nicki Minaj, Lil Nas X, Miley Cyrus, Stevie Nicks, Charlie Puth, and many more.

“WAP” by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion set several major records since its release, and its chart domination continues. After topping the charts in the U.S., this smash-hit reached no. 1 in the UK, becoming the first female rap collaboration to do so.

“WAP” was released on August 7th, as the lead single from Cardi B’s upcoming sophomore album. Its music video featured cameo appearances from Kylie Jenner, Normani, Rosalía, and more and it immediately created a lot of buzz and became a viral sensation.

This song debuted at no. 1 in the U.S., with the largest opening streaming week for a song in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It failed to replicate the same success in the UK, where it debuted at no. 4, but it finally managed to top the UK Singles Chart this week.

In addition to becoming the first female hip-hop collaboration at no. 1 in this country, “WAP” is the first chart-topping hit for both artists. It’s also the second female-led single to top the chart this year, following Lady Gaga’s “Rain On Me” feat. Ariana Grande.
