Unlike previous Damon Lindelof projects, Lost and The Leftovers, which were ongoing and showcased unresolved narratives, Watchmen was meant to be a closed story with a beginning, a middle, and an end. Now, we are getting a clear hint that HBO’s intriguing show will not come back to another season.

The premium network has reclassified the show from a drama series to a limited series, including for “any possible future installments.”

“We discussed with the producers and felt limited series was the most accurate representation of the show and any possible future installments,” said the official statement by the network. Lindelof has already said in the past that he will not be involved in any continuation of the show.

The decision to reclassify Watchmen also stems from the way HBO plans to enter Watchmen into the award season. Technically, it does not qualify as a drama series in its current form. This is by no means a confirmation that the show is never going to continue but as of right now, the question of whether Angela Abar (Regina King) can walk on water will stay open.

Watchmen premiered on HBO on October 20, 2019, and stars King alongside Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Andrew Howard, and others.

In a recent interview with BBC’s Paperback Writers, Alan Moore revealed that if things would have proceeded differently we could have seen David Bowie filling the part of Rorschach in Watchmen. The co-creator of the acclaimed graphic novel (along with Dave Gibbons) said that the legendary singer asked to portray the part of the vigilante.

According to Moore, director Terry Gilliam tried to adapt the graphic novel to the big screen back in the 1980s. Moore said: “I remember he told me that he’d had a number of phone calls from David Bowie asking to play the Rorschach character.”

Unfortunately, the Gilliam version of Watchmen never came to life. The movie got an adaptation in 2009 and was directed by Zack Snider. Jackie Earle Haley portrayed the character of Rorschach. Ironically the character of Bowie himself made an appearance in one scene, played by J.R. Killigrew.

So how would a Terry Gilliam Watchmen movie starring David Bowie would look? As Moore says in the interview: “There’s an alternate world we can only imagine.”

A new Watchmen TV series premieres on HBO on October 20.

“Everything begins.”

With these words, HBO announced the date of the premiere of the anticipated series Watchmen. The show will hit the screens on Sunday, October 20.

The network announced the date in a tweet with a kind of an ominous “Tick tock” caption. Also included in the tweet is a short clip of the words “Everything begins” forming clock’s hands.

The newest adaptation of the classic graphic novel written by Alan Moore is created by Damon Lindelof of Lost. It features actors like Regina King, Don Johnson, Jean Smart, and Jeremy Irons.

The graphic novel, which got a movie adaptation by Zack Snyder, takes place in an alternate reality where superheroes have been active in the US but have been outlawed. The heroes band together to try to stop an atomic war. The new series will use this as a base for a new story in which the police are being hunted by a terrorist group styled after Rorschach – one of the main characters of the graphic novel.

The series will span 10 episodes and will feature new heroes like the one played by king and characters that stem from the original subject matter.

More than 10 years after Zack Sneider’s adaptation of Alan Moore’s masterpiece, Watchmen, to the big screen, HBO is due to release a new series that follows the masked vigilantes – and judging by the latest trailer that premiered in San Diego Comic-Con, we have a lot to look forward to.

Unlike Sneider’s movie, the new series will not be a direct adaptation of Moore’s graphic novel, but rather will tell a new story, set in the same world. However, the new trailer does let us glimpse some known and beloved characters, such as Dr. Manhattan or Rorschach.

“Those original twelve issues are our Old Testament”, wrote the series creator, Damon Lindelof. “When the New Testament came along it did not erase what came before it. Creation. The Garden of Eden. Abraham and Isaac. The Flood. It all happened. And so it will be with Watchmen. The Comedian died. Dan and Laurie fell in love. Ozymandias saved the world and Dr. Manhattan left it just after blowing Rorschach to pieces in the bitter cold of Antarctica”.

Lindelof is the creator of another successful HBO drama –  The Leftovers – and he also worked on the mega ABC hit show, Lost. Regina King, Jeremy Irons, and Don Johnson will be some of the leading names starring in Watchmen.

Moore’s vigilantes desired Justice. We desire a new series that will deliver justice to the classic source material. In October, we will get to see if justice is done.

The Big Little Lies alum Hong Chau has been tapped to star in HBO’s Watchmen.

Chau whose credits include Amazon’s Homecoming and Downsizing, has joined the cast of the upcoming drama from Damon Lindelof. The series is based on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ iconic comic series.

Chau will star alongside the previously announced Jeremy Irons, Regina King, Jean Smart, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Adelaide Clemens, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, Lily Rose Smith, and Adelynn Spoon.

Watchmen isslated for a 2019 premiere and according to Lindelof won’t be an adaptation or sequel of Zack Snyder’s 2009 Watchmen feature but rather a “remix.”

“We have no desire to ‘adapt’ the twelve issues Mr. Moore and Mr. Gibbons created thirty years ago,” Lindelof wrote in a five-page letter he shared on Instagram back in May. “Those issues are sacred ground and they will not be retread nor recreated nor reproduced nor rebooted. They will, however, be remixed.”
