More than 10 years after Zack Sneider’s adaptation of Alan Moore’s masterpiece, Watchmen, to the big screen, HBO is due to release a new series that follows the masked vigilantes – and judging by the latest trailer that premiered in San Diego Comic-Con, we have a lot to look forward to.

Unlike Sneider’s movie, the new series will not be a direct adaptation of Moore’s graphic novel, but rather will tell a new story, set in the same world. However, the new trailer does let us glimpse some known and beloved characters, such as Dr. Manhattan or Rorschach.

“Those original twelve issues are our Old Testament”, wrote the series creator, Damon Lindelof. “When the New Testament came along it did not erase what came before it. Creation. The Garden of Eden. Abraham and Isaac. The Flood. It all happened. And so it will be with Watchmen. The Comedian died. Dan and Laurie fell in love. Ozymandias saved the world and Dr. Manhattan left it just after blowing Rorschach to pieces in the bitter cold of Antarctica”.

Lindelof is the creator of another successful HBO drama –  The Leftovers – and he also worked on the mega ABC hit show, Lost. Regina King, Jeremy Irons, and Don Johnson will be some of the leading names starring in Watchmen.

Moore’s vigilantes desired Justice. We desire a new series that will deliver justice to the classic source material. In October, we will get to see if justice is done.
