We’ve seen many amazing actors play Superman over the years, and David Corenswet is the next one in line. James Gunn’s superhero blockbuster is currently in production, and he just shared the first look at David Corenswet as the beloved superhero.

Superman in Gunn’s new film will be “the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way”, and we’ll see him embarking on a journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas.

David Corenswet was tapped to play the lead role last summer, and it’s not a coincidence Gunn chose him to embody one of the most iconic superheroes in history.

“The next Superman has to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has but he’s also an alien. It’s gotta be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion that Superman has and be somebody who you want to give a hug,” Gunn told Variety.

The first film sees Corenswet suiting up to save the day, while a giant meteor is seen through the window of his apartment. According to Gunnn, this photo was taken on set by Jess Miglio and was “entirely in-camera.”

Superman will hit the theaters on July 11, 2025, and it will also star Rachel Brosnahan, Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, Anthony Carrigan, Sara Sampaio, and Nicholas Hoult.
