It’s already been five years since The Lion King remake took the world by storm, and the next installment in this franchise is on the way. Mufasa: The Lion King is one of Disney’s most exciting new releases of 2024, and its first trailer is finally here.

Simba’s father Mufasa was one of the major characters in The Lion King, and we’ll finally get to learn more about him in this prequel film.

Mufasa: The Lion King enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala… The story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka – the heir to a royal bloodline,” reads Disney’s official logline.

This prequel will also see Mufasa embark on an epic journey with an extraordinary group of misfits, which will force them to test their bonds and evade a threatening and deadly foe while searching for their destiny.

Mufasa: The Lion King will also mark the return of Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, John Kani, and Beyoncé, who’ll be joined by Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Tiffany Boone, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, and Lennie James. Beyoncé’s daughter Blue Ivy Carter will make her feature film debut in this film.

Mufasa: The Lion King will be released by Walt Disney Studios on December 20.
