Music biopic honoring the world’s most beloved artists are all the rage these days, and Whitney Houston is finally getting her own! The first trailer for I Wanna Dance with Somebody is here and sees Naomi Ackie transform into one of the best-selling music artists of all time.

According to its official logline, I Wanna Dance with Somebody chronicles Houston’s journey from New Jersey choir girl to one of the best-selling and most-awarded recording artists of all time, in this no-holds-barred portrait of the complex and multifaceted woman.

The first trailer takes us on a journey through Houston’s trailblazing life and career and features some of her most iconic hits, including the song it was named after. One of the trailer’s pivotal moments is Houston’s meeting with her former record producer Clive Davis (Stanley Tucci), who serves as one of the film’s producers.

In addition to Ackie and Tucci, I Wanna Dance with Somebody also stars Ashton Sanders as the singer’s husband Bobby Brown, Tamara Tunie and Clarke Peters her parents, and Nafessa Williams as Robyn Crawford, Houston’s former assistant and creative director.

I Wanna Dance with Somebody was directed by Harriet’s Kasi Lemmons and scripted by Bohemian Rhapsody’s Anthony McCarten. It will be released by Sony Pictures on December 21.

Taylor Swift’s Folklore is the defining album of 2020 and its success on the charts confirms this. The critically acclaimed record returned to the no. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 for its seventh week, transforming Swift into the female artist with the most cumulative weeks atop the chart.

This record was previously shared by Swift and Whitney Houston, who both had a total of 46 albums atop the Billboard 200, but that’s no longer the case as Swift broke Houston’s record. The Beatles still hold the all-time record, with 132 weeks at the top spot.

Folklore was released on July 24th, debuting at no. 1 with the biggest sales week for an album in 2020, and there’s a reason why it returned to no. 1 this week. Swift recently performed at the Country Music Awards for the first time in seven years, and her live rendition of “Betty” got everyone talking.

When it comes to the rest of the Billboard 200 chart for this week, Pop Smoke and YoungBoy Never Broke Again were right behind Swift, while Alicia Keys’ new studio album debuted at no. 4.

Taylor Swift set several major records since the release of her critically acclaimed album Folklore, and she’s showing no signs of stopping. Most recently, she tied Whitney Houston’s record for the most cumulative weeks atop the Billboard 200 chart among female artists.

Folklore came out on July 24th, and spent consecutive six weeks at the no. 1 spot since its release, as of this week. The number of weeks Swift spent atop the Billboard 200 across all of her seven albums has risen to 46, tying the record previously held by Whitney Houston.

Swift and Houston are currently the only female artists to spend this many weeks atop the chart, and they’re followed by Adele with a total of 34 weeks. The all-time record is nowhere close to being broken, and it’s still held by The Beatles, with 132 weeks at no. 1.

When it comes to the rest of this week’s Billboard 200 chart, Pop Smoke’s Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon and Juice WRLD’s Legends Never Die took the no. 2 and no. 3 spots respectively. Metallica debuted at no. 4 with S&M2, and it was closely followed by Katy Perry’s new album Smile.

Many high-profile award ceremonies went virtual in the last few months, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will follow suit. The class of 2020 won’t celebrate their induction with a live show but instead will be honored with an HBO special instead.

The induction ceremony was previously moved from May 2nd to November 7th due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but the organizers eventually decided to bring it back in a different form.

John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said that they decided to avoid scheduling a live ceremony this year in an attempt to protect the health and safety of everyone involved.

“Together with HBO and executive producer Joel Gallen, we will still create an exciting program honoring our 2020 inductees, by telling the stories of their incredible contributions to music and impact on a generation of artists that followed them,” stated Sykes.

The list of this year’s inductees includes Depeche Mode, the Doobie Brothers, Whitney Houston, Nine Inch Nails, T-Rex, and The Notorious B.I.G.

The list of inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is in, and we finally know who made the cut. The list of artists bestowed with this prestigious honor includes Whitney Houston, Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, The Notorious BIG, T. Rex, and The Doobie Brothers.

Depeche Mode and Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails released official statements saying how excited they are about the induction, while Michael McDonald of The Doobie Brothers took a moment to praise his fellow inductees and incredible work they bring to the table.

“Each of those bands has helped shape the form that rock & roll has taken over the years. That’s what I like to see the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame do: pick those bands that have sculpted what we see rock & roll as today,” he told Rolling Stone.

The list of artists who were all on the ballot, but didn’t make the cut this year also included Dave Matthews Band, Judas Priest, and Motörhead. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held at Cleveland’s Public Hall on May 2nd, and it will be the first one ever to be broadcasted live on HBO.

The executors of Whitney Houston’s estate waited for the perfect moment to pay tribute to the late R&B legend in a very special way – and that moment is finally here. They recently revealed their plan to honor her with a hologram tour, a new album, and a Broadway musical.

The news comes shortly after 50 percent of Houston’s estate found a new owner in Primary Wave Music Publishing. The list of future projects they’ll plotting right now includes an album of previously unreleased songs and a unique concert experience, featuring a hologram of the late singer.

Pat Houston, the sister-in-law of the six-time Grammy-winning artist, broke the news to the New York Times and explained why she decided to take this step after years of safeguarding the legacy of the late singer.

The years following Whitney Houston’s death in 2012 have been quite emotional for the members of her family, and they took some time to process everything. Pat Houston feels that people had forgotten how great Whitney was, and she’s hoping this series of projects will remind them why they fell in love with her in the first place.
