Naomi Ackie Transforms Into Whitney Houston in “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” Trailer

Music biopic honoring the world’s most beloved artists are all the rage these days, and Whitney Houston is finally getting her own! The first trailer for I Wanna Dance with Somebody is here and sees Naomi Ackie transform into one of the best-selling music artists of all time.

According to its official logline, I Wanna Dance with Somebody chronicles Houston’s journey from New Jersey choir girl to one of the best-selling and most-awarded recording artists of all time, in this no-holds-barred portrait of the complex and multifaceted woman.

The first trailer takes us on a journey through Houston’s trailblazing life and career and features some of her most iconic hits, including the song it was named after. One of the trailer’s pivotal moments is Houston’s meeting with her former record producer Clive Davis (Stanley Tucci), who serves as one of the film’s producers.

In addition to Ackie and Tucci, I Wanna Dance with Somebody also stars Ashton Sanders as the singer’s husband Bobby Brown, Tamara Tunie and Clarke Peters her parents, and Nafessa Williams as Robyn Crawford, Houston’s former assistant and creative director.

I Wanna Dance with Somebody was directed by Harriet’s Kasi Lemmons and scripted by Bohemian Rhapsody’s Anthony McCarten. It will be released by Sony Pictures on December 21.
