2020 NAACP Image Awards: “Just Mercy” and “Black-ish” Among Top Winners

Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Daveed Diggs in "Black-ish"

The NAACP Image Awards celebrate black excellence in film, TV, and music and this year legal drama Just Mercy and family sitcom Black-ish took the lead.

Michael B. Jordan’s latest film dominated the motion picture categories, but the list of major winners also included Lupita Nyong’o’s role in Jordan Peele’s critically acclaimed horror film Us and Marsai Martin’s big-screen breakthrough in Little.

When it comes to the TV field, Black-ish swept the comedy categories, winning a total of six trophies. The mini-series When They See Us came in second with three awards, and it was followed by Greenleaf, Power, and Red Table Talk.

Lizzo took the entertainer of the year award, but it was Beyoncé that dominated the music categories thanks to the success of her live album Homecoming, and The Lion King soundtrack.

NAACP Image Awards took place on February 22nd at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
