The Daytime Emmy Awards came back to honor everyone’s favorite daytime TV shows on Friday night, and the list of winners is pretty impressive. General Hospital was the biggest winner of the night, and it won the trophy for the best drama, while The Kelly Clarkson Show collected the award for the best talk show.
General Hospital was competing against Beyond Salem, The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of Our Lives, and The Young and the Restless for the night’s biggest award, but no other show could come even close. In addition to outstanding drama, this soap opera also won awards for outstanding supporting actor (Jeff Kober), outstanding supporting actress (Kelly Thiebaud), outstanding young performer (Nicholas Chavez), and outstanding directing team for drama series.
As for The Kelly Clarkson Show, its triumph was to be expected after it won top awards at the Daytime Creative Arts & Lifestyle Emmy Awards. Clarkson managed to beat the likes of Drew Barrymore, Hoda Kotb, and Kelly Ripa to win the award for the outstanding entertainment talk show host. Jeopardy! was named the outstanding game show, while Judy Justice picked up the trophy for the outstanding legal/courtroom program.
The 49th Daytime Emmy Awards took place on June 24 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California.
