The CMT Music Awards returned to Austin, Texas this weekend to honor the best of country music from the past year. Jelly Roll topped the list of winners taking home three awards and Lainey Wilson was right behind with two after topping the list of nominees.
Jelly Roll managed to come out victorious in three categories thanks to the success of his song “Son of a Sinner”. This track brought him awards for the best male video of the year, male breakthrough video of the year, and CMT digital-first performance of the year for the live rendition of this song on CMT All Access.
Lainey Wilson, who came into the ceremony as the most-nominated artist with four nods, was also one of the night’s big winners. She won a trophy for the best female video of the year with “Heart Like A Truck” and collaborative video of the year for “Wait in the Truck” ft. Hardy.
As for the biggest award of the night—video of the year—Kane Brown and Katelyn Brown came out victorious with “Thank God”. They defeated the likes of Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton, and Morgan Wallen to collect this award.
The 2023 CMT Music Awards took place at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas on April 2, with Kelsea Ballerini and Kane Brown hosting the show.
