Raye has been dreaming about holding a BRIT Award in her hands for as long as she can remember, and her dream finally came true! The R&B star left The O2 Arena in London with six awards on Saturday night, becoming the most decorated artist in a single year.
This year’s BRIT Awards were record-breaking for Raye long before she hit the stage to pick up her trophies. She came into the night with seven nods, breaking the record for most nominations in a single year, and ended up triumphing in six of these categories.
Most notably, her debut album My 21st Century Blues won the award for the British album of the year, defeating The Ballad of Darren by Blur, Beautiful and Brutal Yard by J Hus, No Thank You by Little Simz, and Heavy Heavy by Young Fathers.
She also defeated tough competition in Dua Lipa, Jessie Ware, and Fred Again to be named the British artist of the year, in addition to winning the song of the year trophy with her viral hit “Escapism” ft. 070 Shake. The awards for the best R&B act, best new artist, and songwriter of the year also went to Raye.
The 2024 BRIT Awards took place at The O2 Arena in London on March 2, with Clara Amfo, Maya Jama, and Roman Kemp hosting the show.
