2024 has truly been the year of Taylor Swift, and her domination continued at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. She came into the night with 12 nods and managed to take seven Moon Person trophies home, including the video of the year award for “Fortnight” ft. Post Malone.
Ariana Grande’s “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)”, Billie Eilish’s “Lunch”, Doja Cat’s “Paint the Town Red”, Eminem’s “Houdini”, SZA’s “Snooze” were also in the running for the ceremony’s most coveted award, but none of them could come even close to “Fortnight”.
Swift’s collaboration with Post Malone was also named best collaboration and song of the summer, in addition to winning awards for best editing and direction. Swift won two more individual awards – artist of the year and best pop.
“Fortnight” was definitely the biggest winner of this year’s MTV VMAs, but it failed to win one of the night’s most coveted awards – song of the year. Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” came out victorious, beating the likes of Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em”, Jack Harlow’s “Lovin on Me”, Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us”, and Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control”.
The 2024 MTV VMAs were held at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, on September 11, with Megan Thee Stallion hosting the festivities.
