With nearly every other Marvel superhero team getting their own TV series or film, many comic book fans have been wondering about New Warriors. Luckily, they’re getting their wish fulfilled.

Marvel has announced plans to release a live action sitcom based around the team over on Freeform, which will also be the home for Marvel’s upcoming Cloak and Dagger series. There’s no word if New WarriorsCloak and Dagger will premiere simultaneously or during different seasons. The new show, which will get 10 episodes in its first season, is slated to be released in 2018.

Starring as Squirrel Girl is actress/comedian Milana Vayntrub, who is best known for her work in various AT&T commercials and viral internet video “Wrestling Isn’t Wrestling.”

Several actresses, including Shannon Purser and Anna Kendrick, wanted to portray the character.

Joining her on the cast are Derek Theler as Mister Immortal, Jeremy Tardy as Night Thrasher, Austin & Ally star Calum Worthy as Speedball, Matthew Moy as Microbe, Steven Universe star Matthew Moy, The Whitest Kids U’ Know’s Kate Comer as Debrii, and three-time Emmy winning actor Keith David as Ernest Vigman.

The show will be filming in various areas in Atlanta, which is where DC Comics live-action series Black Lightning and Titans are also being filmed. The series will be directed by Kevin Biegel, who co-created the Courteney Cox sitcom Cougar Town.

New Warriors got their official comic book debut in The Mighty Thor #412 back in 1989. Over the years, various superheroes have joined this team, including Nova and Scarlet Spider. New Warriors was created by Tom DeFalco, who is best known for bringing G.I. Joe and Transformers into the mainstream.
