Fox bosses opted not to renew 9-1-1 following the Season 6 finale, but the first responder drama already found a new home. 9-1-1 will move from Fox to ABC for Season 7, in one of the most dramatic high-profile series shakeups in recent memory.

Fox’s cancelation of 9-1-1 doesn’t come as a shocker in the grand scheme of things, given its high production value that’s been costing Fox approximately $9 million-$10 million an episode. Its potential move to one of the Disney-affiliated networks has also been discussed after the studio acquired 20th Television with the majority of 21st Century Fox’s assets.

Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television Group, confirmed the move and said it’s a privilege to keep telling more heart-racing and uplifting stories about the beloved 9-1-1 characters.

“Thanks to the creative drive of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, as well as the talented cast, 9-1-1 has been one of the most defining and original dramas on network television over the last six seasons and we are honored to bring it to the esteemed group of series on ABC,” he said in a statement.

Surprisingly enough, the hit spinoff series 9-1-1: Lone Star didn’t experience the same fate. Fox just renewed it for its fifth season, and it will remain on this network for the time being.
