After rumors have been flooding the wizarding world, it looks like a Harry Potter series is finally happening.

A Harry Potter series is in very early development at HBO Max. No writers or talent have been attached to the project, but sources say conversations between multiple writers on a potential series have taken place. There’s also no word on the focus of the series and what part of the Harry Potter timeline would be featured.

At this time, no deals have been made, which was echoed by HBO Max and Warner Bros. in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “There are no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform.”

The Harry Potter book series is one of the most popular of all time, with all seven books in the series selling over 500 million copies worldwide. The books were adapted into an eight-film franchise, which grossed almost $8 billion worldwide. So far, there have been two films in the prequel spinoff Fantastic Beasts, with a third of five scheduled for a 2022 debut.

The news to develop shows within the Harry Potter world is not surprising as streaming wars have been taking place between companies. Disney announced tons of shows set within the Marvel, Star Wars, Disney, and Pixar Animation worlds and HBO Max has multiple DC Comics shows in the works.
