A Remake for “The Princess Bride”? Not Such a Popular Idea Apparently

Cary Elwes and Robin Wright in "The Princess Bride"

The Princess Bride is one of the most beloved movies of the 1980s if not of all time and it seems that there are some people who want Hollywood to revisit it while for others, the mere mention of this possibility is, well… inconceivable.

In a recent profile Variety has done of the producer Norman Lear,  Sony Pictures Entertainment’s chief executive, Tony Vinciquerra, was quoted as saying: “Very famous people whose names I won’t use, but they want to redo The Princess Bride… Not a month goes by when we don’t have an idea coming from some very big name wanting to do things with Norman.”

This quote was met by some big names exclaiming this reboot or remake of the classic adventure romantic film should never happen. First and foremost among the naysayers is the movie’s lead Cary Elwes who tweeted: “There’s a shortage of perfect movies in this world. It would be a pity to damage this one.”

Other people who expressed their wish that the cult classic would be left untouched include Jaimee Lee Curtis (who is married to another one of the movie’s stars, Christopher Guest) who claimed “there is only ONE The Princess Bride”, Senator Ted Cruz who called the original “the greatest thing in the world”, Adam Lance Garcia, Seth Rogen and many others.
