Showtime is currently developing an exciting anthology series about the lives of the beloved first ladies, and this project is slowly finding its leads. Aaron Eckhart is the latest star to join The First Lady in the role of former president Gerald Ford.

According to Showtime’s official logline, this historical series will “peel back the curtain on the personal and political lives of these enigmatic women, with season one focusing on Eleanor Roosevelt, Betty Ford, and Michelle Obama.”

The role of Eleanor Roosevelt is yet to be cast, but whoever ends up winning it will be in pretty amazing company. Viola Davis has been cast in the role of Michelle Obama, while the three-time Oscar nominee Michelle Pfeiffer agreed to play Betty Ford.

Aaron Eckhart’s casting in the role of Gerald Ford makes us even more excited for this project, especially since this will be his first major TV appearance. The Dark Knight star mostly appeared in guest television roles so far, most recently in Matthew Weiner’s The Romanoffs.
