Abbott Elementary is one of the most hilarious new shows to premiere last year, and it’s finally getting credit where credit is due. The list of nominees for the Television Critics Association Awards is in, and the critically acclaimed ABC sitcom is leading the way with five nominations.

Abbott Elementary is in the running for one of the biggest awards at this ceremony – the program of the year. The list of nominees in this category also includes AMC’s Better Call Saul, Hacks by HBO Max, Severance from Apple TV+, Netflix’s Squid Game, HBO’s Succession, Showtime’s Yellowjackets, and HBO’s The White Lotus.

Abbott Elementary has also been nominated for the outstanding new program and outstanding achievement in comedy, while its stars Quinta Brunson and Janelle James received nominations for the individual achievement in comedy.

The TCA Awards will be held on August 6 in Los Angeles, marking the first time in three years that the ceremony is taking place in person. The TCA president Melanie McFarland said they’re proud to ring in the show with one of the most competitive, talented, and star-heavy nominee rosters in recent memory.

“This lineup is a testament to how diverse and innovative the modern television landscape has become. We cannot wait to see who will rise above the rest when the winners are revealed at the 38th Annual TCA Awards on August 6,” said McFarland in a statement.
