Adele’s latest album 30 was a long time coming, and her fans couldn’t wait to get their hands on it. After over five years in the making, the album easily hit no. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, debuting with the largest week for any album released this year.

30 hit the shelves on November 19th and exceeded everyone’s wildest expectations with 839,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. during its first week on the chart. It broke the record previously held by Drake’s Certified Lover Boy, with 613,000 units earned in its debut week.

Album sales comprise 692,000, marking the largest sales week of the year for any album. To make the whole thing even more impressive, the sales of 30 surpass the total sales of any album released in the past 11 months and almost double the year’s previous biggest sales week, achieved by Taylor Swift’s Red (Taylor’s Version).

30 is Adele’s first album since 2015, and it also topped the charts in the United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, and many more countries. Its release was preceded by the lead single “Easy on Me”, which spent four weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart so far.
