Alec Baldwin is joining the realm of superhero films.

The 60-year-old has signed on to star in the new Joker film which stars Joaquin Phoenix as the titular character who is the bane of Batman’s existence (see what we did there?)

The Will & Grace star will join the project as Batman’s father, Thomas Wayne.

Wayne Sr., who was a physician and philanthropist, was murdered along with his wife Martha during a street robbery, inspiring the young Bruce to grow up to become the vigilante, Batman.

The film is expected to be based upon the Joker’s origins and will be separate from Heath Ledger’s Oscar-winning portrayal in The Dark Knight and Jared Leto’s recent run-in Suicide Squad.

Alec will be joined by Deadpool 2 actress, Zazie Beetz, Marc Maron of GLOW, and The Wizard of Lies star, Robert De Niro on the project which will be helmed by The Hangover director, Todd Phillips, and co-produced by Martin Scorsese.

The Joker is set for release on the 4th of October 2019.
