From True Blood to Big Little Lies, Alexander Skarsgård starred in some truly iconic shows over the years—and he’s gearing up to do it again! The Emmy-winning actor will lead Chris and Paul Weitz’s upcoming sci-fi series Murderbot.

Based on Martha Wells’ book series The Murderbot Diaries, this sci-fi show will follow a self-hacking security android (Skarsgård), who must hide the fact he has free will. He spends his days completing dangerous assignments, despite the fact he’d rather be left alone to figure out his place in the universe.

The adaptation of Wells’ books has been in development for quite some time, but the casting has been interrupted by the SAG-AFTRA strike. Chris and Paul Weitz created this project under their Depth of Field banner, and they’ll be in charge of writing, directing, and producing it. Andrew Miano, David S. Goyer, and Keith Levine are coming on board as executive producers.

Skarsgård is fresh off starring in the final season of Succession, and he recently received nods for several awards for his supporting performance on this series, including an Emmy Award. He’s also been cast in Amazon Prime Video’s remake of Mr. & Mrs. Smith alongside Donald Glover and Maya Erskine.
